I was no fan when we grabbed Kostin, but he grew on me. I want to see what he does with a full season or see what he draws at TDL.
Nurse would be like latching on to another Vlasic contract, only worse. And the way its structured there is never any true relief with a buyout. Its not a problem now, but will be in 3 years when they have to pay the new core. Edm would have to retain, significantly, for any team to consider him.

From one aspect, they would have an easier time than Minnesota did with their 14M in dead cap since the cap increase should cover Nurse's dead cap hit (still have another ~4.55M in dead cap) starting in the 2026-27 season, but that's assuming the max the core guys are taking is 8 to 9M. On the other hand, they'll be less competitive than Minnesota was if they have 4 to 5 guys taking up most of the available cap. They may be forced to bridge some guys which could have other consequences down the line. The Oilers better be giving up something really good for Grier to put them into 4-years of misery. It's probably not worth it also if Nurse isn't willing to stay a couple of years, would be much more favorable to buy him out in 2026, since you'll have a player to help reach the cap floor/play in the line up for 2 years, and a slightly lower penalty.

50% retained and a first+ to even consider it and it’s still probably a pass for me
