First, have to think - if Marner is even moved - it would be after July 1 so 2024 picks make no sense.
Second - hard to believe Ducks would move McTavish; he’s a cornerstone 1/2 C still on his elc
Third - I doubt Marner would waive for Anaheim, they are an awful team currently - lots of good pieces in pipeline but 3 years minimum before they are competitive. Does Mitch want to miss playoffs during his prime years?

No, we're still not trading for Marner while sending his center the other way. Our forward core for the balance of this decade is set: Zegras and Gauthier at LW, Carlsson and McTavish at C, and Terry at RW. You build a team gradually, by adding to the core, not taking away one piece to replace it with another -- no progress is made that way. And you guys have proven over the past 6 seasons that concentrating most of a team's firepower in a few star players doesn't give you a winner because there aren't enough resources elsewhere to provide the proper support for them.

Fourth - the Ducks have zero desire to pay any forward 12.5M. Saying he's going to extend for that number hurts the possibility of the trade happening rather than helping it.

I don't see how JT is a 3rd line center. If he isn't able to keep up as a 2nd line center he will be LW1or2, he is still going to be producing 70points or more. He isn't going to shutdown anyone and 11M isn't wasted on 3rd line minutes. JT would still out produce any LW on this team if he was playing that position.

While I don’t think McTavish is better than Marner like my colleagues have stated, I don’t think it’s worth it for the Ducks to trade a player like McTavish for Marner.

His age is just a bit over Anaheim’s contending window. And his contract is too steep for want Verbeek would want. Especially considering he’ll need a paycheck after next season.

If a Marner to Anaheim trade ever were to be in play, I think a package around Terry makes more sense for Anaheim and Toronto’s side.
