I considered Sens freeing up some cap space to acquire a top 9 forward and bolster their offence

Puckpedia says the difference between the #5 overall pick and the #7 overall pick is the #39 overall pick.

https://puckpedia.com/pickvalue

That's the maximum you'll get from us.

Ottawa is perfectly fine with keeping the 7th pick.

Based on this academic paper if Joseph is dropped then the value could be close ... https://myslu.stlawu.edu/~msch/sports/Schuckers_NHL_Draft.pdf

I'd say after the season Joseph just had his value is a 2nd. So here we'd be giving up way to much, and I know Montreal is a division rival so we have to overpay but if we take out Joseph it's still an overpay and fair. I'd be willing to potentially do it if Levshunov or Lindstrom made it to 5 and Montreal didn't want either. Even then we could wait until 7 and get one of them if Montreal didn't want either so idk.

The Jackets are better off keeping KJ and seeing what we can turn him into than adding two lesser prospects that'll need even more time to grow. We need to be going in the opposite direction.

Joseph could be negotiable in the deal if you fine that the price is too steep. Keep in mind that this trade would assure Sens first choice to their top rated player and reduces the risk of Utah drawing first dibs on that player

If Lev or Lindstrom make it to 5 I'd assume many teams will call Montreal to move up so I could see the price being high.

I agree Joseph works well in the Sens line up. I can agree with Staois pushing back and keeping MJ

Added context, I could see this scenario playing out if Lindstom is grabbed by CBJ ar 4OA

Yeah I'd assume he's who Montreal wants also. I personally only think Lev, and Cayden are worth moving up for so unless one of them is available I think Staios will just stick at #7!

1. The paper you cited is over a decade old and so, it does not take into account any of the draft pick trades made after its publication.

2. This trade.involved paying the #68 overall pick + a 2nd for the following year to move up from #7 to #5.

2 late 1st dont get you KJ. It would take 5OA if we are talking draft picks.
