If Mitts wants too much

Description
I cant see it and find it very remote, BUT Just in case, looking at cheaper alternatives that fill 2-3 holes on the team that are young and have upside, and collectively might be better for the team than MItts alone, BUT AGAIN, very remote

Frost, on a bad team and a pretty bad offensive club, has shown good flashes on 2C ability with 2 seasons (1 where tortorella jerked him around) of .5 pts per game or better.
Zamula in his 1st yr in NHL got 21 pts in 66 games on a pretty bad offensive club and theres a lot of room for growth there.
Deslauriers is one of the leagues best hitters, great vet leader/locker room guy, who plays a regular shift and pk.
The 2nd rounder is going to be high in the round, whether its 2024 or 2025.

Its not tons, but its an example of filling the defense and the 2C role for alot less than Mittelstadt if he wants that 7.5-8.5mil range.

Just to see further options, this is a 14 forward, 8 dmen example.

Don’t believe you acquired Mitts only to trade him for a lesser package.

I think that's probably close to a fair offer IF the Avs can't afford Mitts. I'd prefer not to take Deslauriers (use that money on Trenin along with Cogs' money - he's done imo but the Avs may re-sign him though I don't see a raise for him if they do and JJ should be done too) and just make it Frost, Zamula and the 2nd.

It's a realistic take on a maybe if Mitts can't be signed and also an offer the Avs should consider if it were actually offered in reality. Good job on the whole imo.

Yeah, agree with that, maybe Desalauriers at 50%, I do think that COL needs somebody to pick up MacDermid's role, and unlike MacD, deslauriers is an everyday player

Frost would allow COL to re-up Drouin. But part of the Avs' 2C role is sub for MacKinnon when injured. JTC struggled, Naz was great, Soderberg... Frost isn't that guy. Mitts can handle it & doesnt have the numbers to get over $7.

Yeah that's fair comment, purely more of a preference on my part.

Yeah maybe. But hes put up 59 and 57 pts (with multiple linemates/teams) the last 2 seasons, had a good playoffs, in a jumping cap in 24-25 and 25-26 and his former teammate, cozens, got 7.1 for 8 yrs after 38 and 68 pt seasons....

I think hes a 7-7.5mil player, but its quite possible in this jumping cap, that he wants 8-10mil

I'd question your belief in Mitts being able to handle it but opinions vary. I don't believe either Frost or Mitts are capable of being that guy for any great length of time. However they are also both significantly younger than Naz was and he'd grown to that point. A 25 yr old Kadri wouldn't have been able to do it either.

Yeah 57 and 59 not 67 and 69 that $7-7.5 even with an expanding cap is wishful thinking $8-10M is a joke, ironically using the CF player filter the only players that show up with cap hits that big are and with similar point production this year tage Thompson, Naz and Nelson for the 7-7.5, the $8-$10range has more players in it obviously but it’s guys like Hintz, Zibs, Horvat, Schiefle, and Larkin and he isn’t in that realm. He’s good and gotten better but using Cozens as a comp isn’t fair because BUF knowingly rolled the dice to lock up a guy long term coming off of his elc trying to win the bet. But ultimately if he wants to get PAID by betting on himself he signs his QO and walks himself in UFA.

I don't think Mittelstadt is enough of an upgrade over Frost to justify giving up the rest of the package to get him. Believe it or not the front office and coaching staff has extremely high value on Deslauriers because of not only what he brings on the ice but he is an old school pro that they want around the young guys. Zamula is expendable for the right trade as is the 2nd but I don't think it makes sense for the flyers in this deal.

I don’t expect Mitts to be able to demand more than $7 to $7.5 million, and that’s definitely the upper limit of what he’s going to be worth. He has moments where he is a wizard with the puck, then he also has moments where he blows his assignment and leads to a goal against. Still a heck of a player, but I think in time, maybe Buffalo will have more clearly won that trade.
