The Wild aren't trading their second best center for a winger and a 3rd rounder when they need centers. And I am a big sheary fan, but the Wild are already long on wing prospects and very short on NHL centers. We'd really like to sign Cullen if we can afford him after signing granlund, so dealing staal doesn't make a lot of sense. Just for clarity, both granlund and coyle play primarily wing, so our top 4 centers right now would probably be Koivu, Staal, Erikson-Ek and either a minor league guy or hopefully cullen.

Yea I knew Coyle played wing a lot but wasn't aware Staal played primarily wing? That would make sense then because I thought the Wild were very strong down the middle.

Staal was a center all last season. The only time he was on the wing was late in the game and the Wild were protecting a lead and had Staal and Koivu on the ice together.

Granlund was on Koivu's wing all of last season. And wasn't a good 2C before that.

Coyle played 3C for a few games but was primarily the RW on Staal's line.

To Sheary turned into Staal, you need to pay a lot.
