Correct. Neither team would do it, but it's far worse for buffalo

Yeah one reason is because Buffalo's defense would look like this after the trade:

Dahlin-Jokiharju
Power-Clifton
Nurse
Byram
Samuelsson
Bryson
Johnson

Wow. At least skinners contract is short enough that retaining or buying out are not ridiculous (they still aren't very nice of course), that nurse contract is worse, there's no semi-painless out.

That is definitely a stacked blueline already. Their only issue is they would have 2 lefties playing their off hand assuming Joker is taken out of the mix

Samuelsson - Dahlin
Power - Clifton
Nurse - Byram

It's just not worth it for Buffalo

If the term was the same I would think this could work but man Nurse has a **** ton more term.

Power can play on the right side, so can Samuelson.

Your defense corps took a big step back. Desharnais isn't a top-4 guy and Broberg hasn't proven himself yet.

Which is not ideal. They'd also be spending nearly $40 million on their defense, and thats before Byram gets his raise.

Why? When you are an offensive defenseman playing on your off-hand can be beneficial. It puts your stick on the middle of the ice which is better for shooting and opens up more passing lanes. I don't get this myth that defenders can't play on their off hand, it's like you all didn't play D growing up and a team where everyone was right handed on the states or left handed in Canada. It's not that hard to switch,. especially after a few games to get used to it.

I see what you're getting at but it's still not ideal. You are making plays off your backhand half the time. Not to mention gapping up along the wall in your own end. You need to be really mobile to counteract a lot of the downsides here. Dahlin is capable of that, not too many are.

Power and Byram are also mobile enough and have the stick handling ability to do it.

Ok, so why do the vast majority of NHL teams strongly prefer to have 3 RHDs and 3 LHDs?

True but it's not optimal. You want those guys at 100%.

You don't know that, Dahlin is better on the right and prefers to play it. Go join a beer league and play on both sides and tell me how different it is

I've APed at the Junior level I don't need to join a beer league.
