Ducks need a big, defensive minded right D to pair with their mobile sophomore season LDs in Mintyukov or Zellweger. 185lb Hronek isn’t a great fit for us. Value wise it’s fair

The Jets aren't giving Ehlers away for a 1st 2 drafts from now, a cap dump and nothing else.

I don't know, him and Mintyukov could be a pretty good pairing. Heoneks shown he can play with offense first guys, mintyukov should be less of a defensive liability than Hughes.

I could see this deal happening.

Gotta be honest I’m super surprised hearing that from you. Aren’t you the one who felt Zell was gonna be expendable and that Verbeek was gonna build a Vegas-like defense of 6’2+ mammoths on the backend?

Hronek had a great year. Especially the first half. But he doesn’t have any history prior that suggests the first half of this year is gonna stick, and he’s gonna get paid big for it. I can totally see his contract being one the signing team regrets

Yeah, that's my opinion, but based on his skill and history with Verbeek I could see a reunion. At 6' 190 he's not exactly undersized. It does all come down to his contract though, and if he'd be willing to sign for an amount that didn't become a problem, he'd already be signed in Vancouver I think.

Not undersized necessarily, but he’s 8lbs heavier than 20 year old 5’9 Olen..

Take away this one season paired with one of the best dmen in the league (and really the first half of it), and I don’t see much of anything in Hronek’s career that suggests he’s top pair. With him doing it in his contract year, he’s almost certainly getting paid. I’d prefer that to be from someone else personally 🤷‍♂️

With alright point production, an 1/3 takeaway to giveaway ratio, and completely neutral possession metrics. That performance is about what I’d expect from him, which will totally fall short of the contract he’s about to sign with his next team

Detroit as a whole had awful possession metrics and hroneks were especially bad when he was partnered with chiarot. Hronek had very high possession metrics when you look at RAPM. Him and maatta were very good together. Also he had 38 points in 60 games with Detroit, which is a 52 point pace over 82 games. Similar production, high leverage role, and really good numbers when away from chiarot.

Where are you pulling RAPM data from? Looking at any of the typical advanced metrics, he didn’t shine that year at all. And that’s even in relativity to his team, who you mentioned were bad from a possession standpoint.

At the end of the day I kinda think we’re both a bit set in our perspective. Just to clarify, I don’t think he’s a bad player by any means, and I’d even totally want him on my team. The issue for me is:
(1) he’s coming off of a career year in a contract year. I have serious doubts he lives up to the pay day he’s about to get
(2) He doesn’t really fit the need I believe ANA has. With Mintyukov and Zellweger pretty locked as our future top 4 LD, I’d like to see a bigger, more defensively focused veteran RD to pair. At 6’ 190lb, he’s smaller than I’d like. I’d rather see the money go to someone like 6’2” 210lb Matt Roy who’s very solid in our own end
