Highly Unlikely But It Helps Ottawa Long Term

Created by: TheGoalieGuru
Team: 2024-25 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 1, 2024
Published: Jun. 1, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A large portion of Sens fans would hate this but I don’t see this team as anything but flawed. It needs major surgery.

We have to make the next 2-3 drafts into a team that will be cup worthy. Loading up for ‘25 in particular is where my thinking lies. That draft should be the deepest one.

For our 2 1sts this year I want Parekh and Elick. That takes care of the RHD for the next decade plus.

7 picks in the first 3 rounds of the 2025 draft is exactly what we need to replenish this team.

I’d rather trade Brady for like Maccelli + 6th overall and draft both Dickinson and Parekh at 6/7. We need building blocks. Not Hronek and a late 1st. I’m not that high on Lekkerimaki , he’s a smaller perimeter winger

If Hronek would take 6.25x8 he would have been resigned already

Don't see how the blues can have Chabot/Leddy/Krug on the left side. That's way too much money on the defense alone

Just can’t see any team taking Krug or Leddy. Those are cap hell contracts

So do the Sens . Hronek doesn’t move the needle, he be flipped max for a late 1st. Lekkerimaki is a small perimeter scoring winger and late picks

Leddy is fine at 4 mil. Krug is the bad contract. Leddy has done well for the position we have put him in

I see your point but if you want a partner for Parayko it’s going to be a top pairing Dman under contract and those aren’t cheap. If you can find someone who will take Krug and more importantly a place he will go that’s your key dumping him.

This is Brady Tkachuk. Hronek isn’t worth 7M a year to Vancouver when Willander is right around the corner.

Hronek would definitely get more than a late 1st if you flip him

That’s where we differ strongly because I see Lekkerimaki as a 1st line RW that’s at least another Batherson and likely better.

Hronek is absolutely worth 7M a year to the Canucks. We’ve been looking for a top RHD for years, and now we have one. If you can sign Hronek for 7M you definitely keep him. If he’s set on 8M and nothing less then yeah you can move him

And while Brady is great this is too much for him. This is the type of package you give up for someone like his brother

I mean he's not supposed to be playing on the 1st pair with the usage he is getting. Put him on the 2nd pair and he would do much better. But he is not first pairing material. That's not really a knock on him tho.

He’s a 2nd liner who will play on the top PP and bring 0 physicality . If you wanna build a team of Marner, Bratt type players go ahead but they’ll never win anything.

If you like Hronek that much you’d pay him whatever he wants. No it’s not. His brother would cost you much more in quality . This is more quantity for a high end player

I don't really see getting Parayko a partner before we can move Krug. I mean if we get Chabot our forwards are still not great and now our goaltending is weaker. We would still be stuck in the middle. Might as well ride out the contracts for another year or 2 and sell them at 50% in the last year if we can. I don't see Chabot p[ropelling this team to contention.

A top pair RHD, an elite prospect, a 1st, a 2nd, and taking on a cap dump is not more quantity than quality lmao

I will never consider Hronek as that. I’d rather get a top 10 pick and a young piece for Tkachuk and choose a player that fits our team better

If you’d rather a top 10 pick that’s fine, but calling that offer quantity over quality is just false

That type of offer just has a lot of room to backfire. Hronek flops and gets flipped for Pennies . Lekkerimaki can’t adapt to the NHL like Holtz . And late 1sts aren’t a top prospect

Or it could end up being a complete steal for Ottawa

Hronek continues to breakout and becomes an undisputed top pair guy

Lekkerimaki lives up to his potential and becomes a star winger

Ottawa hits on the late 1st and takes a player who ends up being a superstar (like Boston with Pastrnak at 25 or Dallas with Johnston at 23)

Tkachuk continues to be right around a PPG player with great physicality and poor defense, but never takes that step to superstardom
