Those trades ideas are decent.

Strome
* Veteran forward who could fill need at 3C
* Contract does not have clauses

Korczak
* Defensive RD filling a need on the second defensive pairing

Jokiharju
* Pending restricted free agent destined for a bridge contract
* Expendable as the Sabres upgrade RD

Johnson
* Pending restricted free agent destined for a bridge contract
* Expendable as the Sabres have a quantity of LD

Kisakov
* Two years AHL experience
* Restricted free agent after 2024-2025 season
* Needs another season in the AHL to prove he can produce offensively

Another Sabre with a friendly contract may need to be moved. The decision could be between Clifton and Samuelsson. Clifton would be easier to move because of a lower AAV and shorter term. Samuelsson needs to stay healthy and show what he can do.

I think Samuelsson has more value, probably a lot more. I'm guessing what other gms would see- he's big, he can cover for a more volatile offensive player, he can play up and down the lineup, plus less obvious stuff like where he was drafted and the family ties. Clifton doesn't have the size, he does play more physical (at least he hits more), I don't think he ever looked like more than a third pair d (and I was really hoping he'd be a top 4), he is however right handed. Also for Clifton, he did settle down as the season went on, but I think you are still looking at an undersized, physical, third pair, right shot d. Samuelsson is like a notch up in every column except "is available to play most games"

Great minds

Thoughts about something like Strome for Laine?

Kinda think you just don’t go there with Laine. Too much can go wrong, and on his contract it’s hard to see things go in a way where you’re getting your money’s worth

I wonder if Novikov will turn out a better player than both Johnson and Samuelsson

He's intriguing but I wonder how much work he needs for better skating.
