What are you sending Detroit for Veleno?
What are you sending Philly for Couts and that first?
What are you sending Chicago for retention?

It would cost so much more for Chicago to retain any part of couturier

Chicago gets a third to retain for 6 years. I think you need to re-evaluate how much it would cost to do something like that. But it doesn't matter because Philly rejects anyways.

Come on man, you think retaining $1.9m on Couturier for six seasons is worth only a 3rd round pick…. So, close to $12m in actual $$ plus tying up one of their three retention spots for six years is worth ONLY a 3rd round pick… seriously give your head a shake.

We will start with a first round pick and add from there.

My belief is that was a swap of a late first and an early 3rd

It wasn’t a third party retention. To retain $11m plus, it would take another 1st and 2nd just for Chicago. And probably an additional amount to Philly.

The cost of retention is fairly formulaic. $5-6m costs a 1st, $4-5m a 2nd, $3-4m a 3rd.

That formula isn’t universal or precise

I think spread over years instead of concentrated can change it some. I also believe availability of cap space in a year can adjust value.

That said, this one appears way off so it doesn’t matter

Not even close to the same situation, San Jose was trading and retaining on their own player, they received a 1st round pick and prospect who was selected in the 1st round last year. They also were able to free up the cash and cap not retained. Yes, San Jose did give up two 3rd round picks.

In this situation the Hawks are being asked to retain to help two other teams complete a deal, the only benefit they receive is the 3rd round pick noted in the proposal which is no where near close enough.

Yeah if you think ur getting Coots at $4M per year and we are going to pay you to take him at $4M ur just way off on ur evaluation lol. Coots would be the best $4M center in the league at that point lol and we are paying u to make that happen?
