Team: 2024-25 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 3, 2024
Published: Jun. 3, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The plan:

Gain more draft capital, move it forward to 2026 and 2027. Draft Demidov and RHD this draft, and 2 1st round selections in 2025 trading up as necessary. Use 2026 and 2027 extra picks to aquire players.

Keep Lee, JPG, and Mikheyev, for 2024 unless can trade with retention at TDL. Buy out at end of season. Trade Ceci and perhaps Murphy and Hall at the TDL.

No UFA signings this year, take on Cap Dumps, and try for 5th-10th+ in next draft, to show growth.

Bring in Russian prospects in 25-26 and 26-27, now the charge is on, one more year of building the prospect pool, to keep players growing. Maximum effort little trading the future. 2028 - 2040 constant contention for the Cup, then rebuild again.

The Isles really only need to dump one contract (JGP seems most likely to go), so take out Lee and about half of those draft picks.

I'd have to see what the 2025 draft looks like on depth as this would essentially be an 18th and probably be like a 23rd pick or so which isn't bad.

I do think there is a big drop after 12, so I'd rather get something really good at 10 than take a risk Fitz drafts two more Chase Stillmans. If 2025 is deeper and he might find another Mercer I could deal with it.

There's no reason for the Isles to pay for cap space at the moment.

Free agents historically dislike the Isles. Even taking lower term, or pay, to NOT play here. So it's unlikely we get a pickup that would require it as well.

Don't see the Hawks trading away two 1st rounders to move up to #10, but I suppose it's possible. Hawks don't make that Leafs trade. That Toronto 1st in this draft doesn't really have first round value. The returns for the Hawks on the other 3 trades are all pretty optimistic. Don't see the Hawks getting that much in any of those deals.

I think it takes a bit more for the hawks to be willing to take on ceci and Campbell. Davidson really wants to avoid contracts going beyond 2 years so I think it would take a better offer to take on Campbell.

What more do you think beyond 2x 1st's and a 2nd?

The Leafs pick is to trade to one of the top teams that doesn't have a pick probably to one of their future 1st's.

This isn't a Josh Bailey situation where the player is useless. JGP is still a decent 3C, just a bit overpaid. They'll retain some salary and move him without a sweetener before they give up a first to dump him.

For the Edmonton trade, remove Ceci, the 2027 1st and both of the 2nds. The cost to move Campbell is the 25 1st, but they aren't trading ANOTHER 1st with Ceci. If you want Ceci it'll cost you your 2nd.

I suggest you look at Puckpedia, quoted cost to move from Campbell is the #14oa pick, not a late 1st. When you work it back this is the cost using late firsts and seconds.

If the cost to move Campbell is much more than a 1st, Edmonton will just buy him out. You have Edmonton paying two 1sts and a 2nd. That's not going to happen.

If you want Ceci, you pay a 2nd.

I agree, buying out Campbell is the best option, but it still hits for 6 years at over a mil and 2 at over 2mil, for a total of 10.5m over 6 years. Average that at 1750000 per, and run it through Puckpedia, it comes out to 19oa pick if they don't want the buy out, so still would need to be more than 1 late first round pick.
