He's not getting paid 2 million more than Hedman at age 30

He'll be 29 ... and he's a top 3 D in the league for sure, if not the best.

it really depends who you ask. Doughty's won a norris, 2 cups, and all that. i think Doughty is probably the better player.

why do people talk about his past performance? you should be talking about the player he will be from age 29 to 35. some folks think he regressed last year. anyway he will have two years to prove his worth and then get overpaid by someone.
Hedman, Karlsson, Doughty, does Ekblad rebound from concussions, do any youngsters suddenly vault into the top 10?

Doughty will still be really good at 35+, that's my guess ... i guess not a 10M type player, but they don't need to sign him for 8 years i guess.

The Kings may be looking at the the disaster they might have be signing Kopitar to 10m X 8. Tell me who would have offered close to that? Kings may not offer the most money, but I think Doughty stays a King.

He's on a two year evalulation. What Is his worth e? Maybe 6m for 5 years. Doesn't mean at least one gets foolish like many Armchair GMs and talk about previous accomplishments and he get 8.5m X 7.

The best d-man in the league could get more than 6M.

If I was an owner, I'd be quite happy to pay him on year to year salary. So rangerislesfan you're right. It's more than 6m. Let's say 9.5, then 9.5, then he slips a bit 8, and 7 and then the slippage to 6 to 4 maybe.
That's why players like long term contracts. They are fearful of injury and regressing in their play.

then what about a 5-year deal at 9.5M-ish? Also, for the best d-man in the league, he might start to play a bit worse but will probably still be an unbelievable player, kind of like Chara in 2013-14.

I'd say Drew gets like 10-12M per year, if he leaves LAK, something akin to 77M over 7 years seems about what he would probably cost if not more money... Kings he would cost like 84M over 8 years would be my guess at the minimum with a possible cost of 90-100M depending how good/bad the team is... Until they get some real right shooting D-men like Sharks have Heed who can help on PP to take stress off Burns who he is doing better than early on... Even Braun as the 3rd pair or 2nd pair right shooting D-man is better than what Kings have... Forbort is an awful 1st round Tarasenko bust who can't clear the puck or play in critical situations... HE is not a 1st pair D-man, maybe a 3rd pair would be more his speed and ability... So to stay in LA I'm thinking 12M for 96M or even 94M with hefty contract they gave Kopi along with Brown's costs... He is a top 5 right shooting D-man who can average top 5 quality minutes for the position so he can name his price/team...
