Is adding a 11m Marner a splash? More like a flop. Just sign a just a good UFA cheaper and not give up good assets.

Gee, I don't hate Marner at all. He's a very good player. But s many Toronto fans think is so superior which I don't understand. He's the 9th highest paid player in the league, and he certainly isn't the 9th best player, maybe the 9th best winger.
I'm more of opinion that so many Leaf fans think other GMs are suckers. They have to give up so much for one year of overpaid Marner. Gee those four players traded to Leafs make less than on Marner, and they many more years of control.
KInda like the Trouba trade you proposed. Gotta think the Leafs would be much better keeping Kampf and McMann at the same cap as Goodrow, and then they have 8m spend to spend on a UFA(s) instead of one 8m "unhappy traded to Canada" Trouba.

I get the sense you're from Toronto - and if that's true... You'd know Toronto is the least Canadian city in Canada. If there is one place he'd feel at home it'd be here.

With marner- I understand there are complications. But if he's waiving the no move, he's signing a contract to extend. I think that doesn't need to be said. Albeit I'm clearly wrong

McCabe is retained by Chicago. Leafs take on a positive asset who played through a broken ankle all year.

Point taken though

Agree with you that Marner isn't waiving unless he has new contract in hand. He's better playing with superior offensive players so he can put good numbers.
But I wonder if any team (well logical team) would offer him a contract that pays him more than what his current contract. Thought the Leafs gave Nylander a "hometown premium". 11.5m x 8 years.

Toronto the least Canadian city in Canada? Obviously you haven't travelled much in Canada. Where is "He'd feel at home it'd be here?"

Been all over Canada. Lived in Vancouver. Been to every province (no territory though), my friend. I'm from Toronto and am aware of how Americanized it is. Also been to NY several times. Am aware of both sides to compare. The Peg is not Toronto. Far more small town vibes, much colder weather.. Just my opinion at the end of the day.

I stand on my statement. Toronto is the least "Canadian" of the teams located in Canada. People seem to forget Toronto is the 4th largest market in North America. Behind only Mexico city, NY, and LA. Many American quality's come with market size.
