It's going to be a kick to the junk losing Marner for nothing.

The good thing is it gives the Leafs a mountain of cap space to balance the roster.

Hopefully for the Leafs sake, Tree spends it wisely.

I'd start with the D.

Its just the most leaf thing to happen. Whatever. I hope they do spend it on D, but will there even be any good D that are UFAS in 2025-2026? Only person I could think of is chychrun, so lets pray! However we need right handed guys.. which feels so hard to come by. Next season is yet another first round, MAYBE second round exit.

There are 190 players in the same situation as Marner. It's so crazy that on CF, it seem he HAS to be traded.
You're right Marner stays.

Not really; he’ll have played here 10 years. With him & JT expiring, that’s $22m to address needs via FA.
Was always a long shot that he would waive or be moved this year; there was also a risk that you’d have to take back contract(s) that you may not have wanted.

Yes really.

You can spin it whichever way you want but it's never a good thing to get no assets in return for a star player in his prime.

But it's a pleasant fiction. 🙄

Not too worried about it, but thanks for carrying that burden on our behalf. Leafs Nation thanks you 👏

Leafs allow JvR, Gardiner and Bozak all walk away for nothing and used the free money to sign J.T.

Ekblad and Hedman are UFA in the summer of 2025.

Might as well poach your rivals franchise players to hurt them.

You're right, Bozak at $5 million and JvR at $7 were instant buyer regrets for their new team.

And Gardiner at $4.25 couldn't land himself on the Canes LTIR any faster if he tried.

That's Monday for the kind words. Well I do remember the four Maple Leafs Cup wins....I'm 70 years old. But hoping for at least on more in life time, and for Leaf fans.
Maybe CapFriendly will remain be subscription free. It's been great fun for me....hence the 60,000 posts.
