Fair deal for both teams. Nice work.

This is what a hall of fame defensemen in his prime costs

I don't know, that's pretty tempting. LA shouldn't mind an early rebuild if that's what they'll get. ???

how can you say this is a fair trade? There is no way the leafs would trade a potential franchise player in nylander, potential no.1 defence an in liljegen and a no.1 pick for the older drew doughty.
My guess is leafs might try to acquire doughty at 2018-2019 trade deadline before he becomes a ufa as a rental for playoffs for something reasonable in terms of prospects and picks.

To me a franchise player is a player that can lead his team year in and year out and Don't get me wrong here, I like Nylander and he is my favourite leaf but to say he will be a franchise player like a Mcdavid or like a Crosby is a bit of a stretch, or even being the best leaf. Liljegren is a great prospect but leafs fans don't realize that prospects don't drop from being ranked top 3 in the draft to 17th because of having mono there was a clear reason why other teams didn't take him high. I see liljgren being a top 4 pp speacilist but I don't see him really being able to carry a defence on the PK or 5 on 5. You can say that adding the first round pick is to much but you see how much RHD go for on the market aswell as Doughty being a future Hall of famer that is currently in his prime, so your gonna have to give up a lot to get him.

Why so they can let him walk away for nothing or overpay the hell out of him just like what most of their stars will do when they hit free agency so they can have a long rebuild because they didn't get young players/picks for their players because they think their still gonna be a contender. If I was the GM of la I would start my rebuild pretty soon depending on how this season starts.

Also to add to your point, Doughty has a lot of years left in the tank. So what he slows down as he ages? You don't have to be fast to be a good defenseman. Your first job is to play defense. And Doughty is one of the best in that
