Realistic offseason

Description
I don’t predict any shock and awe this offseason.

- Trouba gets traded with 2.5 retained. Say what you want about him but he’s a good leader, physical, respected in the room™️, and has a long track record in the NHL. He has a 15 team NTC, there are teams that have essentially limitless cap space that aren’t close to competing that would bring in Trouba for culture™️ for minimal investment. Chicago gives us very little to add a strong veteran presence.

- Goodrow gets traded at 25% retained. His value has never been higher as a NYR due to his insane playoff
Shooting bender. Teams will view him as the missing piece and with looming extensions for Shesterkin, Lafrienerre, and Miller we need to make this move now. 25% retained & getting a 4th back was a foreign concept prior to the playoffs. 3 x 2.7 for the acquiring team is fair value

- Kakko gets traded. ANA is a logical fit.

- Lindgren accepts his 1 year QO. He had a very bad 23-24 and we roll the dice on him bouncing back. I don’t want to extend him long term, he plays for a year prior to the looming extensions, becomes a UFA, and we’ll decide the long term from there.

- Drury hits a home run and extends Schneider 4 x 3.2 Schneider has 4 RFA years left and this contract makes him a UFA at 27 to secure a big deal. Works out for both sides as I think Schneider becomes a solid 2nd pair RHD.

As for the forward group overall, there just won’t be a ton of changes. We’re not signing Guentzel or trading Zibanejad. My thought process here is to get nastier and inject some talented youth.
- I’m a huge fan of Berard, he’s a pain in the ass pest who will bring a lot of energy and pop to the bottom 6, not to mention he was an accomplished 5v5 scorer as an AHL rookie.

- I’m not as high on Othmann as others as this year he showed he’s PP dependent, but maybe like Cuylle he’ll just be a way better NHL player than he was AHL player. He can play with a mean streak, and I’d like to see him add more weight, but he’ll have an important role this year.
- I’m very bullish on Edstrom and Rempe carving out strong careers as 4th liners. Obviously they’re both giants, but that’s only part of the equation for me. Rempe has great straightaway speed (led NYR in MPH burst game 2 against Florida) and has a nose for the net. I want these guys to stay in NY and work on their skills all summer. Edstrom is definitely more polished, but I think they will make up 2/3 of a feared checking line. If Rempe can clean up his skating & balance, and continue to work on being disciplined this is a line that can grind teams down with strong forechecking and hard hitting.

Any chance of the rangers winning a cup depends on Zibanejad playing like he did in the 21/22 playoffs, not tbe complete duds of 22/23 & 23/24. Kreider-Zibanejad doesn’t work anymore. I’m putting Lafrenierre, our best forward on the RW for Zibanejad, and adding Martinhook to help drive possession, round out the line. We overpay Martinhook on a 1 year deal.

You left $33.5m to extend Laffy, KAM and igor (roughly $25m?), top 4 LD, Cuylle pay raise, Jones pay raise or 3LD, and middle 6 winger (Martinook replacement)

    Doesn’t seem doable

I agree with almost everything but I don’t think Martinook is worth it. I rather throw that money to someone Lavi has coached before who’s due for a bounce back and is more likely to sign a 1 year prove it deal. Viktor Arvidsson fits the bill in my opinion

Hawks would probably consider that. But Anaheim isn't trading Gudas for Kakko.

Schneider is not getting a 4 year deal (it doesn't make sense for the Rangers to do this).

Might as well keep Trouba (assuming he waives for Chicago) if you are going to retain $2.5M on him and replace him with Gudas at $4M. The $1.5M savings is probably not worth it to the Rangers who value his leadership.

I think that's plenty of space. Will need to maneuver for sure, the 3 you mentioned first will probably take around 25m, that leaves 8.5m to work with, Cuylle will get max an extra 2m, Jones will get max an extra 1m, leaving 5.5m for a middle 6 winger and another dman. A bit tight but 100% doable.

I think they need to keep the retainage/buy-out amounts to a minimal and probably a cheaper RD than Gudas or bridge Schneider for cheaper

No we are not trading Radko

We will give you a 4th for Trouba and a 3rd for Kakko

Anaheim may be a logical fit, our only RHD for next season is not a logical return. Should have taken the Vatrano deal at the TDL
