Description
LTIR shows notable prospects expected to be in Rockford. Scratches are guys who should have graduated Rockford by now but I don't see NHL roles for

Love the idea of adding a few guys build for the playoffs in Guentzel in 24, Bennett in 25, and even Yakemchuk who has that mean streak to him to compliment the high end skill of Bedard, Demidov, Korchinski, Nazar, etc.

Hall, Dickinson and Murphy expire the year after this where you can hopefully have Moore, Kansterov/Lardis/'25 1st, and Rinzel hopefully step into their places

That is a heck of an overpayment to the NJD. Most "charts" / "calculators" have that delta being the #36 or #37 being sufficient to move up. Not (3) 2nds.

While true, for value the Devils could take it on that. But at the same time, the Devils are a very young team that don't need to go out and restock the pool as much. They would be better off taking someone at top 10 quality than getting some wild cards in the 2nd rounds.

I don't find those charts to be very accurate, they especially don't reflect the exponential increase in value of higher picks. The only draft pick value site i've found to be okay is PuckPedia which has the equivalent of moving from 18 to 10 is roughly the 26th pick. As i've said none of these sites properly account for the exponential increase in value of the top picks so I still think this is off, but even then we couldn't get 26th OA for 50th + Dallas 2nd next year (will be late). The 3rd 2nd is to try to further account for that premium

Those charts absolutely do reflect the exponential increase in value of higher picks. But yeah PuckPedia has been tested and proven to be the most accurate.

If the chart he looked at says it costs 37OA to move from 18 to 10 then it clearly doesn't reflect it accurately

For sure. Again, PuckPedia has been tested and proven to be much more accurate. But the chart isn't off by some insane amount. PuckPedia shows that to be within 6 points, which is the equivalent of a mid to late 2nd or a couple of early 3rds, which is exponentially less valuable than an early 2nd. It isn't accurate, but it is not too far off. That value can be easily made up for by taking cap back or sending a bit more.

Without the inspiration of studies like the SoundOfHockey pick valuation chart as something to build off of, the PuckPedia calculator wouldn't exist as it currently does or be as accurate as it is. Along those same lines, it is worth noting that, the way teams have done things in the past does not necessarily dictate the way value will be determined in the future. In the age of analytics it is always evolving, in order to become more accurate. If teams previously valued a pick to be worth this much but over and over again, with the benefit of hindsight, they don't feel they are getting the value they wanted, then they are going to change their valuation process and demands.
