This is just awful for the Sabres. Not surprised it's coming from a leafs fan.

I think Necas for Quinn would work as a base for a trade

That's why we'd keep Jack Quinn?

He's had 1 1/2 seasons of NHL experience?... Not exactly what I'd call a proven top-6 guy

And in that time he's proven to be an effective offensive player

His play might tell a little bit different story than his stats but his stats scream borderline top-6 guy (45 point pace, 18 goal pace)

They like his upside a lot. It's not worth moving a guy like that when there are others with less upside they could move for a top six guy if they wanted to, including the 11th pick.

Like who else would you move that has a lot of upside (preferably a forward)? (I'm not that familiar with the sabers prospect pool)

Much like necas having 14 goals and 40 points at the same age?

i wouldnt move anyone who has a lot of upside. Those are guys you have to keep to win lol. Wingers typically go for way less value than ppl think. And if that takes Necas off the board so be it. Id just call STL about Buchnevich and build something around 11th overall.

Tbh, they shouldnt be trading for a top six winger at all. Their biggest priorities are a matchup 3C and a d-man to replace jokiharju.

Base of a trade as what else is Carolina giving up to Buffalo

CHI might have interest, but I wouldn't recommend trading assets for early negotiating rights. That is a ridiculous ask for Necas, though. Same with KK. And not enough for Vatrano.
