Troll account. Made today for the purpose of riling some folks up; only explanation for the SJS trade.

Slight Troll

Better than all those Brady Trades.

Was thinking of the Draisaitl rumors of going to SJ because he was German and thought Staois might be approached for Stu. That's the jiffs of the trade. Throw in another prospect or two to even it out but getting a veteran center (who Staois said he wanted to acquire), a reliable back-up, an elite prospect and draft capital from a bottom feeding team is pretty substantial. If one is worried about Cap space, just drop Couture from the trade and add any other prospects not taken in the top 5 to the trade instead.

Calgary isn't interested in Chychrun unless he comes with an extension or the acquisition cost is a whole lot less than Markstrom alone.

The proposal is with Chabot, did it change?

This meant a bad proposal for Markstrom. No retention a decent sized prospect. Young 1LD. I’d ask for Kastelic instead of the 4th or include Duehr for him. He’s tough, already familiar with being & playing in Calgary and would be a good replacement for either Rooney or Duehr

Chychrun would be risky without an extension but we could try to flip him at the Deadline if we can’t get the return we want for Markstrom

I’m just not sure Markstrom would waive for OTT

My bad. Calgary isn't interested in Chabot AT ALL.

What am I missing? Chabot would be a great addition. I think he’s tired of OTT and could use a fresh start elsewhere. He’s just entering his prime years now, comes with term and will be good for the foreseeable future

Chabot is a huge defensive liability. IIRC he has never not even once had a positive +/- at the NHL level. And that's playing on the top pair with the top lines pretty much the whole time. He's way overpaid for a player that should be deployed as a powerplay specialist rather than a top 4 defenseman.

lol.
Chabot isn't a defensive liability. He's an injury liability though. He's Ottawa's minute muncher and, when they were completely horrid, he was deployed for 25-28 minutes a game. That's playing against top lines with a defensive partner named Zaitsev. No one's +/- is going to survive that. He transitions well and plays great positional hockey. Think of the ilk of Jay Bouwmeester in his prime. He's better than Chych. Chych gets all the attention because of his cap hit. Once he gets paid, he won't.

Zaitsev has been gone for 2 years and Zub is Chabot's partner.

Zub was typically with Sanderson. Chabot was often stuck with Chychrun (with Chabot on his off side) or with Brannstrom. Chabot even played with JBD more than he played with Zub.
