Who says the Wings are the 'best drafting team'? How does one qualify as the 'best'? I would argue that it's all about rounds 2-7.

Fun Fact: The Red Wings were the only team to have a scout see Datsyuk play before the 1998 draft. A Blues scout was supposed to be on a flight to see Datsyuk play, but his flight was cancelled due to a storm. cry

That's a well known fact but while most attribute that to fate, I would argue that if you are actually interested in drafting a player, the team would find a way to see them play somehow. The blues obviously weren't interested enough in Pavel
