We Winning

Created by: Droakner
Team: 2024-25 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 5, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The idea is to upgrade the defense while also not sacrificing crucial assets

1. Shoot Campbell out of a Cannon at the first Buyout window

2. Move Ceci and Kulak out and Broberg and Pesce in, Ceci on our top 6 is just not it and we need a critical upgrade so ship him out to any team who needs a dman (I used Utah), I really hate moving Kulak out but it is almost required if we want to have Broberg in the line up consistently.

3. Sign a vet top 6 scoring Fwd to play with Draistial, went with a rental 1 year deal as Draistial and Bouchard's extensions are needed next year and that will take a ton of money

4. sign Bottom 6 guys to replace Brown, and Foegele, While signing Janmark to a loyalty contact and Carrick as well

5. Mcleod/Sillinger trade, imo trade looks good for both sides, Oilers get a young Centermen VERY similar to Mcleod while Jackets get a young faceoff guy which they desperately need from the looks of it, I included a 3rd rounder to balance it out as Sillinger has a little more value

  1. 2024 6th round pick (DAL)
UTA
  1. Ceci, Cody
Additional Details:
If it is true that Utah management wants to revamp their Defense then maybe they look at getting a top 6 Dman on expiring contact or 2 years left with playoff experience

Either Kulak or Ceci Utah can choose

if Kulak price goes up to a 3rd

BUT

would yall be apposed to a deal for Hayton??? something like: Kulak, 2nd or 3rd for Hayton?
2.
EDM
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (COL)
NSH
  1. Kulak, Brett
Additional Details:
NSH fans do not take this too seriously, trade only happens if Utah chooses Ceci over Kulak

If this does happen it doesn't have to be NSH but chose them as they just traded McDonagh and have contact uncertainties on the defense
3.
EDM
  1. Sillinger, Cole [RFA Rights]
CBJ
  1. McLeod, Ryan
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (COL)

does this seem fair??

NSH would likely not be the team. They did just trade McDonagh, but they have a number of LD prospects who are deserving of NHL time and will likely step up, so the 2LD spot likely is taken care of internally. The bigger issue is on RD, where NSH needs someone to replace McDonagh's playstyle, being a physical, defensive, and big-bodied defenseman. Kulak could theoretically do that, but trying to wrap that up on RD is probably more important by signing someone like Pesce.

Pesce also likely makes more than what you have him at. At that cap CAR likely would have already signed him to an extension. Apparently, he is looking for 6M+ per year.

Thats valid

Pesce wanting 6+ was honestly exactly why I left at least 2+ Million in cap just for him as I knew that it would probably be more tbh

I'm more inclined to get Debrusk along side Drai, I don't think he plays well next to older offensive only players.
Columbus wouldn't take that without another sweetener, maybe Copponi or Berezkin.

Otherwise I like this, I don't think Pesce would sign that unless we can give him 7 years (and I'd still think he'd want north of 5.5M) but this is the way I'd want the team to go as well.

Jackets decline. Sillinger isn’t getting traded unless it’s in a package for an upgrade at forward

So Columbus trades the younger, better, player at a dire position of need, who also has a higher draft pedigree and more-games-played, and the difference is a 3rd?

It's not ridiculously far off, but given our needs/timeline, it makes way more sense to keep Sillinger unless it's an overpay or clear upgrade.
