I am bullish on Blake, so if Devils move Holtz for futures, this is appealing. But I doubt Fitzy goes for it.

How is Holtz worth so much more than Kaliyev when they’re probably equal value?

A late 1st gets the discussion started for Markström. Retention is extra and it’s substantial. Not like this is for the last bit of a season after the Trade Deadline. Things for 2 full seasons totalling $4mil

Jacob Markstrom at 6 million dollars isn’t worth a 1st hope this helps

Retention is priced in already.

Holtz is not worth moving a 1st round pick, let alone adding a top prospect.

You’re way under valuing $4 million in retention over 2 full seasons and ignored the first question. This is typical & clear evidence of your bias by overvaluing your teams players while undervaluing other teams players

Once again, you’re wrong on that. A very late 1st for Markström Unretained is reasonable, but not exactly what the Flames are looking for. They’d prefer a Young Player or NHL Ready Top Prospect

See Fleury, Marc Andre

Every single ounce of value Markstrom has comes from retention.

Outside of that he’s a 35 year old expensive goalie who’s been sub 0.900 over the last 2 years.

Georgiev-Annunen
Andersen-Pyotr
Talbot-Rittich
Woll-Samsonov

All of these teams are listed as potential buyers, yet all have duos who have outperformed Markstrom over the last 2 years, and all are cap strapped in other areas. Without retention Markstrom isn’t particularly valuable.

Keep telling yourself that bud lol. You all want Markstrom but keep saying he sucks and isn’t worth anything and that Fitz holds all the key & leverage after failing miserably the season before and everyone knows he’s desperate for a Goalie even dangling 10OA out there. Classic CapFriendly Homer BS AFAIC

None of those guys are or were rated as 90-1A Goalies except Andersen who has blood clotting issues = risky

MAF was Traded at the deadline, so 50% = $3.5mil x ~20% of the season and his salary due = ~<$700k paid by CHI. If you’re talking about his Trade out of VGK than your absolutely nuts, Flames aren’t in the same position where they need to clear cap.

Conversely you guys want $4-6mil paid/retained by the Flames; that’s like 5.5-9x times the amount of cash out of pocket for the Flames. No wonder ownership said hell no. We paid a 1st on Top of giving Monahan away for nothing to have somebody else pay his $6.375mil owing

If you don’t want or value an ~$8mil/yr Elite 1A Goaltender with a Cap Hit of only $6mil (possibly $3-4mil/yr with retention), then go pound salt and do what you did last year again. Don’t matter to me, no sweat off my 🥜

@MoxNix isn’t wrong, Y’all are coming across as very cheap and super bias trolls on here lately, I’m just hoping for and trying to justify the best return possible for a guy I think is a baby, sucks and I can’t wait to see gone if I’m being perfectly honest

Yes, MAF at 3.5 mill got a 2nd

MAF, reigning Vezina winner, got future considerations at his full cap hit.

I have never once undervalued retention.

I am fully willing to pay a 1st for 50% retention on Markstrom. The issue is he is worth a mid 2nd at his full cap hit.

Markstrom this year at 6 mill: hopefully decent enough value
Markstrom at 6 mill at age 36; I want absolutely 0 part of this, this year has negative value.

Markstrom is NOT an 8 mill goalie lmao. If he hit free agency this summer he wouldn’t get a penny over 6.5, and that’s generous.

I don’t think I’d offer him more than 5.5

Flip him again for another 1st like MTL eventually did with hip issues Monahan. It’s like you think there’s a switch in our bodies that once we hit 36 functions get shut off/down. That’s not the case lol and there’s no signs of Markstrom slowing down any time soon. Get over the age, it’s a consideration but not a big enough one to justify your feelings or position on the matter whatsoever

“There’s no signs of Markstrom slowing down” is utter bull****.

He posted a 0.877 in the final 2 months of the season.

Goalies have historically poor results in their age 35 and 36 seasons.

You cannot simply pretend his age doesn’t matter. It is arguably one of the most important factors

I have to ignore his full NMC, ignore the fact that he’s gonna be 35, ignore the fact that he was **** in 22-23 and 20-21, ignore the fact that his cap hit is 6 mill a year, ignore the historical cost of old goalies in the last decade, ignore the fact that he was dog**** the last 2 months of the season, ignore the overall volatility of goalies.

A lot of question marks you seem to want to brush over.

There is no guarantee that Jacob Markstrom will even be an average goaltender.

Based on his time in Calgary, it’s 50/50 if he’s above or below average. And that’s from ages 31-34, not 35-36

Sounds like you should be pursuing another Goalie

Can’t wait for Fitzy to pull the pin to acquire Markstrom only for him to absolutely suck behind your weak donkey defence lol. Either way, Flames Fans will rid themselves of another cry baby and will certainly have the last laugh in the end

I disagree…if Holtz went to open market, I think he would very likely return a 1st round pick, especially this year. But I am using a Canes fan offer…so asking for Blake on top of pick is not something I would propose myself. And trading Holtz for futures is not something Devils GM likely does.

It’s just the same old conversation going in circles lol

Can’t wait for the Finals to be done and the Draft to start seeing some of these Trades come together and/or be released

Personally, I don’t think the goalie carousel comes before draft. There is no rush at this point and I think all sides have incentive to wait until after July 1st. And then they fall like dominoes.
