I think you are overpaying in both trades. Strome not a good target for 3c

Well I don't really think it's an overpay or a big overpay for Strome. A top 6 C who scores 60+ points, with a great contract, such a player will be worth good assets. Strome seems to be decent at defense, although he is not a physical player. This can give us three strong lines.

Although I wouldn't want to trade our first for Vatrano.

I thought that was always the knock on him- not a good skater, not good defensively, middling offense- unless you play him with a guy like panarin of course. I just want the team rounded out, I think Thompson and cozens need a buffer, I think strome is more of the same.

Did he play with Panarin? I don't know what Cozens and Thompson will look like going forward, but having another capable center who can easily play top 6 would make a lot of sense. If Cozens or Thompson have another bad season or one of them gets hurt, who will be our 2C, Krebs? I would consider a few options.

Strome never played with Panarin. They never overlapped and played on the same team. Strome's first season in Chicago was 18-19, Panarin's last was 16-17.

Strome is the one who drives the offense with whoever he plays with. Strome would be a point per game player if he wasn't carrying the corpse of Ovechkin on his back, or if Wilson (a perennial 30-40 point player) wasn't his strongest linemate offensively. Kulich is a great asset, but the caps would not make this trade. Without Strome, this team is a bottom 5 team.

hahah Strome never played with Panarin - clearly someone doesn't watch anyone else besides the Sabres

But yeah, exactly what brady_t12 said above
