They can't afford him at $7M, which he easily comps; many other rosters on here have shown this. IMO McD signals they'd rather rely on a solid D core to backbone them. Guys like Sheary w multiple years remaining don't get moved often; I'd be shocked if he's dumped. I get TBL fans want SS back, but the writing is on the wall; its just like when STL signed Scandella & everyone knew Pietrangelo was toast.

Steven Stamkos at his exit Presser
"Kucherov @9.5 massively underpaid. Heddy under 8 Pointer@9.5 underpaid credit the guys for building the culture and wanting to be here."
"Weird it's not just about me anymore I have a young family who's planted roots here."
"As I've said many times my priority is finishing my career here."

7 isn't going to be required he signs 5.5 (+-)500k

There isn't a comparable to what you're suggesting. Giroux got $6.5M x3 at 34, Pavelski got $7M x3 at 34, Spezza got $7.5M x4 at 31, Stastny got $6.5M x3 at 32, Kopitar got $7M x2 at 36, Backstrom got $9.2M x5 at 32, Malkin got $6.1M x4 at 35, Killorn got $6.25M x4 at 33. Stamkos blows away the lower end guys like Malkin & Killorn. RNH took a discounted $5.1M at 28 but it was eight years & the NHL isn't approving an eight year Stamkos deal, lol.

He'll match Marchesseault IMO. We're looking at $7.5M x4 or something similar. That's just not doable for TBL.

I don't give a FU** there aren't any comps no one has made it as clear as Stamkos he wants to stay and those comments are clear to anyone with a double digit IQ or higher he knows with TBs cap situation he's not looking a market value. Btw at 34 they can't stop an 8 year deal only 35+ contracts are restricted like that and this will be a SPC

Thornton got $6.75M x3 at 34 then a one year $8M deal at 37. Landeskog took a Cup winning discount at $7M for the max eight years, DToews took a discount but still got $7.25M x7. Ovechkin took a discount to $9.5M x5 at 35! Letang, similar age & pedigree, got $6.1M x6 at 35.

It would take dumping at least one big contract (Cernak) to realistically afford SS & GMs just don't do that to guys they signed. JB traded McD but that was Yzerman's guy who signed well before JB dished out huge deals to the Forwards that forced him to dump McD. This is why IMO all signs point to Stamkos leaving

Go listen to his exit presser. He's not going anywhere. Getting to 5.5 TB dumps Jeannot and Sheary then adds ELCs and vets at <900k run a 22 man roster. Trading Cernak, Cirelli,or Sergachev would completely undermine what Stamkos wants (ANOTHER CUP!!!). Seriously he all but came out and said I'm going to get F**ked on my next contract and I don't care.

Nobody under the current CBA has signed a deal like what you're suggesting. The only 24-25 roster you made has Stamkos at $5.75M x5, which I've already shown to be unrealistic.

In your opinion.
Thornton 6.75 x3 in heavily taxed Toronto
Giroux6.5x3 in heavily taxed Ottawa
Kopitar 7x2 in heavily taxed California. Could only get 2 years as it was a 35+ contract. 5.5 Stamkos takes home as much as any of these players after taxes and he doesn't have to uproot his young family.

38s: "we haven't had those discussions yet, but hopefully soon & we can go from there."
1m: You had some frustration in Training Camp... "It, it... you know when you dont have control of the situation its, its... you know, you just have to come to terms with that & for sure there were times throughout the year that, um, you think about those things & in private conversations w friends & family & mentors & things like that, for me I tried to leave that at home..."
3:32 (leaving the guys) "we haven't talked about that scenario & hopefully that's not the case."
11:05 (16 seasons) "hopefully more."
11:15 guys like Sakic & Yzerman that have played for just one team: does that mean something to you? "For sure... My prespective hasn't changed. Hopefully something works out here (shrugs shoulders) bc you know, I do love it here & think we have a chance to win w the group of guys... so we'll see what's in store in the next couple weeks..."
11:50 Wanting to win, you see what Tom Brady did... to put a winning team together: is that your thought process as well? "I think that's been part of the process... in terms of what guys have taken to stay here, I mean... I understand the tax advantage, but Kuch is making $9.5 & thats prob grossly underpaid... Vasy, Pointer 40/50 goals every year... you look at Matthews $13.5... Heady's making under $8M, thats grossly underpaid... thats what everyone's done here & why we've had success... its a testament to how mgmt builds a team & the players for... accepting that... I think its just the way its always been here."

Sounded like a guy that wants to stay but knows its not guaranteed. He said "hopefully" at least three times. Yes, he mentioned discounts, but all those guys start at $7.5M+; its not a bargain basement $5.75M like you've prayed for.

Giroux is in FLA. Thornton did that deal in SJ.

IMO you'd have to get to $7M, but can't get there dumping Jeannot & Sheary & Perbix; you'd have to dump a bigger contract but the prob is JB signed all the bigger deals! JB isn't dumping guys he signed, nor Kuch, nor Hedman.

Face it: when he brought McD back, Stamkos was gone.

Claude Giroux signed a 3 year, $19,500,000 contract with the Ottawa Senators on Jul. 13, 2022. The contract has a cap hit of $6,500,000.
Try a little fact finding research before making yourself look like a fool open his page is all it would've taken.
You have the right to be wrong he's not forcing 6 to stay in TB. California (San Jose) taxes are maybe worse than Toronto.
