Draft Day Scenario

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2024-25 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 11, 2024
Published: Jun. 11, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Some idle spitballing spurred by a Montreal fan's ACGM.

Let's say that the Black Hawks take Artyom Levshunov at #2. The Montreal Canadiens then make the offer shown below to move up from #5 to #3. At that point, the following youngsters are on the board:
Ivan Demidov
Cayden Lindstrom
Anton Silayev
Sam Dickinson
Zayne Parekh
and the Habs presumably want one of them.

The question is: would you accept the offer? Would the answer be different if the other first was the Winnipeg 2024 pick? (Bearing in mind that the Calgary/Florida pick is almost guaranteed to turn into a glorified second.)

By pick valuations, that's very good value for the 3rd.

There's not much chance Montreal would offer it though, or even look to move up a couple of spots.

As I said in my Team Explanation, this is from a Habs fan's ACGM (he wants Montreal to guarantee being able to select Cayden Lindstrom).

Same caliber players will be available at 3 and 5 and this is a ridiculously high ask from montreal, not even engaging in such trade talks if this is what you dream of getting for your pick

I have Kapanen in huge esteem. I'm not sure we should move up that way.

I'd say it would have to be the Winnipeg pick, the Calgary one becomes the Florida one 99/100 times.

I'd also want a RHD for the roster now, I'd take Kovalcevic.

I don't think Mtl will move the #5 overall pick. I don't think there's a huge difference between 3 and 5 to make that move.
However, I'm almost sure Mtl will use the Winnipeg pick, plus a prospect to either move up in the draft to get a prospect they really want or get an establish nhler.

So? Its one fans idea, based on a personal preference. A fan that thinks Tyler Myers deserves a raise. That doesn't mean its representative of what most in the fanbase want or what management wants.

I believe it was my ACGM.

In a scenario where Celerbrini and Demivod go 1-2 and ANA picking a Dman and CBJ set to pick up a Forward.

It would be to leapfrom CBJ to get Lindstrom who sits at a higher tier than the Catton, Iginla, Sennecke etc.

I doubt the habs overpay too much and Verbeek is likely to just pick his guy at #3.

But if his guys is an odd one at 3 - then picking up an extra asset might be worth it .

I could see the Habs (while swapping picks) sending CGY's 1 round pick or a 2025 2nd round pick + a roster player for it.

Not the whole farm.
