Meh. We don’t need to save under a million for another defenseman.

Wow did you overpay for Ingram lol Minten alone is too much.
Bert for 3.35? He is taking a 2+m pay cut? And on a 1 year deal? Why is he doing that?
No need to pick up 2 goalies. Hildeby is still here.

It is funny how the only position the leafs have a chance to save cap space with Woll and Hildeby as the future people make trades the leafs don't need.

I agree. I have been on that train from the beginning. Let the kids play. I was happy to save the cap space and go into next season with Woll, Hildeby, and Martin. You can always pivot later after Marner and JT's contracts are dealt with next year if needed. Spend on the D.

If they aren't keeping Marner and JT and they both just walk that's almost 22M cap for 25-26. The possible UFA d-men that could be available is super high quality. Roy would be the only d-man l would sign long term out of this years ufa d. 25-26 with Cowan and Minten most likely ready to make the jump. Jarnkrok and Kampf much easier to move is the year the leafs could really make a true contender.

Just hate to waste a year of Matthews contract while at the same time let Marner walk for nothing. Its just terrible asset management for both guys.
But Marner might not give them the choice.
Assuming thats the case. I go after Pesce this offseason. Try to keep Domi and maybe Edmundson.
Maybe a little tinkering with the bottom 6 FWDs.
Then next season move JT to 3C on a new deal. Give Matthews the captaincy.
Go hard after a high end 2C and another top 4 D man.
And make the decision about goaltending at that time. After seeing a year of Woll and Hildeby.

Pesce is just a younger version of Brodie with more offensive ability. JT if re-signed should be for LW because he just doesn't have the speed to be a center. He is also is as good as any leaf winning puck battle along the boards and can be more of a net presence with less responsibility being the first guy back.

Problem with JT as a winger is he is slow as molasses. Expecting him to get back, or to be the first man in on the forecheck...He will never get there. Pesce is a very good defensive D man. One of the best in the league.

It's a cap dump on the Ingram trade. Maybe add another 4th rnd pick?

Both Bert and Domi deserve more and longer. But explain it as this to them. Next year Tavares' $11mil is cut at the very least in half. Long deals with higher amounts can be made then, Meanwhile take the hit for a drive for the cup.

Hildby is up an coming Stolarz has proven to be a great Veteran back-up and would make for a good mentor for Ingram, Woll and Hildby. All upside in this.

LMAO I think you need to value defensive play and faceoffs a LOT more. Kamph is the kind of player Coaches LOVE! Detroit would easily take this trade, all day long.

So here are the reasons DeMelo is the better choice.
1) His projected new contract $4.9/4-yrs is less than Pesce's projected $5.5/6-trs allows the Leafs much needed cap space
2) Being an Ontario native DeMelo could be willing to take less or knock off a year. Both would be good for TO
3) TO needs more physical and shot blocking. Both of which DeMelo, 167 Hits / 139 Blocks, provides more than Pesce 25 Hits / 113 Blocks. Add to that DeMelo outscored Pesce last year 48pts vs. 13pts and the +46 vs +10. It is Clear Demelo (only 2 years older) is more the kind of D TO needs.

I have to ask. If you believe that, why do think their projected numbers are so far apart? It sounds like you are trying to suggest that Demelo is the better player. When he is simply objectively worse. And the greatest hockey minds on earth believe that to be the case. I will agree with you on hits. Thats an objective stat. The rest of those stats are subjective to the team around him and the opponents they face. Pesce's contract length is 2 years longer because he is 2 years younger. So that evens that out.
The only question is, why do you believe that the best hockey minds in the world know less about player value than you?

Both Copp and Compher are far better than Kamph!
