Wouldn't both teams be better off just raising the retention on Buchnevich and removing Kane from the deal completely?

I'd be surprised if the Blues do go the route of moving Buchnevich at the trade deadline next season if they'd have a hard time finding a late 1st and a B+ prospect without the hassle of trying to retain an additional season on a player that may not have a large market.

The Blues are not touching Kane with a 1000-ft isotope claw. Bet the farm on that. Go call Chicago.

In my mind I thought the blues might want to double up on value by being able to flip Kane at half retention for a 2nd. If not though I would just do what you suggested and dump Kane elsewhere to make room for Buch

Kulak reeks, jarnkrok has too much value for the leafs so i dont see him being traded unless theyre massively in need of cap space which right now they arent

Man I don’t know if I would say Kulak reeks, he’s been a serviceable depth guy for Edmonton during this cup run where they have been strong defensively. He’s not anything special but he doesn’t “reek”. I’ve seen a majority of Leafs ACGMs ship out Jarnkrok to Edmonton to make cap space for Domi and Bertuzzi(and depth RD signings which Kulak fills) extensions so I assumed there was a market for a deal like this. If not the I understand their desire to keep Jarnkrok

This offseason is so directionless for the leafs so it makes sense that many leafs fans have different points of view on what should be done. I personally think Jarnkrok is one of our most cost effective players. Trading Kampf for space makes more sense imo even if you have to spend something

I think it would be a bit different if Kane didn’t have the extra year
