no chance in hell OTT does CGY trade, Bath is not for sale, and Bath is FAR better than DeBrusk.

Maybe we can trade him for McDavid (if Edmonton adds a sweetener) or MacKinnon (if Colorado also adds Makar)?

Last year I believe Nashville offered Montreal or someone Askarov + #15 for #5 IIRC. Not sure what his price would be rn

That offer wouldn’t even start a conversation for Andersson

Batherson is all offense and suspect with his defensive play. We already have that in Kuzmenko

Better than DeBrusk and cheaper and signed for 3 more seasons.

No idea. Elite goalie. Would Nashville run a tandem of Saros/Askarov if they’re going to pay Saros $8mil plus? If Aksarov is available then the Sens should be front of the line imo.

Ehhh no interest from the rangers

I don’t get why people trade for Kakko and then continue to stick him on the 3rd line lol

Difference is Batherson is used as an asset to trade for a top 4 dman. DeBrusk signed as a UFA. I don’t see the Sens securing a top 4 dman via free agency, so a trade is our best route.

Well I doubt Askarov wants to be a backup until he’s nearly 30 so i’d assume he will ask out or go to Russia lol. Not sure whats fair value for him tho

He’d be interchangeable in the top 9. Giroux is getting older and can move up and down the lineup. Flexibility. Not necessarily stuck as a 3rd liner.

I mean I doubt he produces any better on the Sens. But either way rangers pass

Flames fan hates it + Ottawa fan hates it. Seems like a good deal. No one is happy.

Tbh I'd ask for Weegar since he's extended long term and from the Ottawa area.

I was thinking you could take the $6.2M you gave DeBrusk and go after someone like Tanev, Roy, Pesce, etc. I would say Montour but he might be priced out as of now.

That is exactly what the current plan is, based on what we have heard from Trotz. However, it all hinges on the contract negotiations and frankly term is more important to NSH than cap. NSH did this with Rinne and Saros previously, so there is no reason to believe they won't try it again with Saros/Askarov. However, the key difference in these scenarios was the contract and age difference. The transition, in full, from Rinne to Saros took about 5-6 years. With each year, Saros took more responsibility from Rinne. NSH is likely looking to lock up Saros to a 5 or 6-year deal, so they can repeat that process. When they did it with Rinne was in the back half of his prime, not the front half like Saros, which is why the contract negotiations are so important.

At the end of the deal, Saros gets traded in a similar fashion to how Markstrom is being shopped now by CGY or transitions to a backup role when he turns 34-35 for a cheaper contract and Askarov becomes the starter when he is 25-26. However, suppose Saros can't agree to a deal due to money or term (both of which NSH likely has very specific numbers in mind). In that case, it is more likely that Saros gets dealt now for a big package and then NSH signs an interim goalie to bridge the gap between now and when Askarov is truly ready for the starters net.

That would be ideal, but realistically none of those guys would want to sign in Ottawa unfortunately.

Great explanation. Thanks for sending. Great plan of Nashville. Stacked in net for years to come.

It's kind of been NSH's MO since their existence. They really have only had 5 or 6 goalies in their 25 years of existence depending on how you want to think about it. Dunham, Ellis, Volkun, Mason, Rinne, & now Saros. All of them averaged over .910 SV% during their tenure. As much as NSH gets a rep for producing great defensemen, they do equally as well with goalies.

Keep him, we are in far bigger need of defense than we are wingers. Both players are on very good contracts but Andersson plays the more premium position so he is worth more
