Columbus is having issues with essentially the exact same player in Zegras with Johnson.

Why would they double up on a player that hasn’t fit well for them while trading a blue chip d prospect?

Anaheim most definitely is not adding both a 1st and LaCombe guy laugh

Laughable to think that Jiricek, who has already indicated a DuBois-level dissatisfaction with his surroundings, has anywhere near the trade value of Zegras, who has not.

We would trade LaCombe and the first for him, however.

From a value POV, yes. But honestly I don’t think it’s terribly far off. Take out one of Lacombe or the late 1st and it’s not egregious. Especially if Lev goes 2OA, I could picture this being interesting for ANA to comfortably grab who they deem to be the best player available.

Jackets already have Kent Johnson. Zegras is redundant. There’s no reason to trade jiricek

This is simply flat-out untrue anymore. His valid complaints were in January, because he was shuttling back-and-forth between the NHL and AHL and wasn't getting playing time anywhere. He rightly pointed to similar prospects getting similar chances and asked for PP time. That was under an entirely different leadership core, and he played much of the end of the season in the NHL. He's currently getting tons of PP time in Cleveland.

ANA quickly says no on value, I agree with you there, but this is a weird trade where both teams say no. We don't have a Jiricek replacement in the organization at 1RD, where Zegras is redundant to Johnson in terms of playstyle.

Overall...it's a bad trade for everyone that makes no sense.

Keep in mind the guy you quoted thinks Zegras has the trade value of Patrick Kane in June 2010

In my experience, once a guy becomes a malcontent, the sense of dissatisfaction lingers even after the legitimate cause for it evaporates. Keep a close eye on him.
