I just got off the phone with Pat Verbeek and he told me you’re missing about 2-3 more 1sts going to Anaheim in that Zegras offer

Just what PIT needs, a 32 year old winger making $5 million for the next three years!

I’ve always liked Skinner, but trading a pick for a player like him, at that age, is not the direction that Dubas is taking. He is looking to infuse youth, and rightfully so.

Trevor Zegras isn't on the market, but if he were, we would not be asking for more than the 2024 first and one of your good prospects. Clifton and the second prospect are overkill.

I'm not going to bite on the newbie naif's silly insult.

Inasmuch as we're planning to move Zegras to wing going forward, are you sure you want him at all?

You guys just had a Zegras, you traded him away and committed to Cozens as your 2C.

I don’t. He’s not what we need. We need somebody who will throw a hit once in a while, and in general, go to the net to create havoc for the opposing defense and goaltender. That’s not his game, and we have too many other players built like him.

That is the exact opposite of what Dubas has done thus far

It strikes me that the perfect guy for you would be Lawson Crouse, but Utah ain't trading him. But he'd be the prototype acquisition for you this off-season. Max Jones, only with talent.

Dubas said the same thing last year.... then signed a bunch of old guys.
I fully expect the same thing this year. But maybe he'll learn his lesson and only sign people on 1 year deals.

Having said that, this trade is awful for the penguins and a 3rd isn't nearly enough for them to take that contract. Nor do I think they will even consider doing that in a year where they are trying to resign Crosby.

Bringing Ponomarev, Koivunen, and Lucius into the organization disproves your statement. Along with a few promising draft picks of his in 2023.

You have to take context into account. PIT wasn’t exactly the most intriguing place for a young UFA to sign long term last summer, after Hextall ran the organization into the ground. Hextall left us with little to no cap space, draft picks, or prospects as he wedged overpaid crap vets on the roster with term. I don’t blame young UFAs for not signing with PIT last summer, because they either literally couldn’t or they were appalled by the longterm outlook.

At least now that the previously mentioned prospects, Yager, and a few others are into the longterm fold, and now that there is more available cap space to throw at guys, younger players should be more willing to sign. If not, Dubas restocked the asset cupboard a bit to make a move for a young impact player possible.

That is the type of player this team should be going after. But to get Utah to give him up when he hasn’t made it public knowledge that he wants out (because maybe he Doesn’t) will cost more in assets than he probably would be worth. Much like a deal for Brady Tkachuk, you find yourself giving up 2 20 goal scorers and a decent draft pick to bring in one 20 goal scorer Who throws a few hits. Not a great investment.
