A waiver claim, an overpaid AHL goalie and a small winger. MTL wants none of that.

If we didn't just draft Fowler I would imagine Habs take a longer look at this. With him in the system though and Monty playing well enough to be a legit starter till Fowler arrives they have no reason to make this deal other than it clear out contracts, which they can do by dealing for picks

Waiver claim is contract in contract out. Knight found his game in the 2nd half of the season and playoffs and is still a top goalie prospect someone Montreal needs to compete in 2-3yrs. Rodrigues would help with the 2nd powerplay and MTL has too many needs right now, take the better players and move forward with the rebuild. Especially since MTL loses only a 4th liner and 3rd pair guys.
Primeau would sort of be a risk but, Knight has the better looking future

My thing about Fowler is how long? Will he be ready in 2026 when Habs start (should start) competing for playoffs and more.
A lot of teams rush guys and goalies have historically taken more time than most to get ready. Montembeault didn't start hitting his stride until 26 and that was after a god awful 25yr old season where the Habs were forced to play him because of injury and he got a ton or reps. When MTL competes I don't think they would want to test out and hope Fowler is ready.
Montembeault is a solid starter on a bad team and might be more (I think he should be one of Canada's 3 goalies for the 4 nations tourney) but, sometimes goalies shine on bad teams because they always need to be dialed in and fizzle out on good teams because the game isn't constantly coming at you

24-25 he's in college and then 25-26 he's the starter in Laval, after that he should be ready for the NHL. I think that's the basic time line I believe management to have

Different guys but, Primeau did 2yrs of College, he's just kind of started to get his NHL legs this year at 24yrs old and both his NCAA seasons had better stats than Fowler had this year

Primeau was a 7th round pick that never had a high talent level, was mostly good at basics and size. Fowler has a much higher pedigree and potential. Will be interesting but I don't see since goalies are voodoo but I'd aim for that 26 season personally

Fair enough, still an optimistic timeline IMO. Not impossible though

Stats he got on cherry picked games and didn't look all that good, Primeau started the game 6 times vs a team that made the playoffs. Habs gave him the easier teams

The guy who's trying to sell an AHL goalie is complaining a NHL goalie plays against easier teams....

Your Primeau stats argument sucked and you couldn't defend it. Everyone knows why Knight played in the AHL and everyone also knows he'll be in the NHL next year, Primeau might not, Habs could very easily find a better backup . . . Like Knight

Primeau has better NHL stats than Knight AHL's numbers last season while being 5x cheaper. Suck on that.
