Chicago likely declines that.

Mainly his age, the logic is with reduced minutes he would perform better over the stretch of the season and stay healthy which Malkin has been recently but at 37 you don't want to push him too hard, as for Donato and O'Connor the logic is to spread the depth so the Pens can hopefully attack in waves rather than relying on one line.

any reason id think that Smith has more offensive ability and the 4th is an added sweetener for the cap surplus.

With the pick being a '24 pick, this deal is before the draft and free agency. The Hawks will probably only have interest in swapping Donato for Smith if they totally strike out upgrading their forward group in free agency. To me, it's more the timing than the value, which isn't bad.

I don’t see the Hawks making this deal, the whole point in this deal for Pittsburgh is to free up cap space, for the Hawks it’s to acquire draft capital.

Given the differences in age; Smith - 33 and Donato - 28; and production; Smith with 10 more points; I think it takes more then a 4th round pick for Chicago to accept. I would suggest Pittsburgh’ 2026 2nd round pick.
