That Marner trade is ridiculous. Why are the leafs adding a first when they arent even getting enough for Marner on his own?
Overpaying Liljegren, Montour, Bertuzzi, and Domi significantly.

So the Leafs are going to over pay every contract they sign, plus give Marner away for almost nothing and it only costs them a 1st rounder to do it? gotcha...

Totally possible. Different teams need different things. ANA for example is in a 10 year rebuild that hasnt gone anywhere yet. Marner only has 5 or 6 prime years left. ANA probably wont be ready to compete still by the time Marner is no longer a 100 point guy. So I could see that being true. The same way there is nothing of value to the Leafs right now in this trade.

Are we looking at the same Marner trade?

I think so.
Marner AND a first round pick
For a D 34 year old D man who cant stay healthy and is $1m overpaid for another 2 years still. (Leafs would be better off signing FA Edmundson for 2.5-3m and it would cost them nothing)
A 20 year old defensive prospect who was -20 in his first year in the league and was -14 only 2 years ago in the OHL.
We will call him a first round pick.
And a third round pick.
So essentially, you want a 100pt first team all star RW,
for an over the hill D man on a bad contract, and a third round pick.

How about this, the Leafs will resign Edmundson for 2 years at 4m per. And we will give ANA Edmundson and a third round pick for Troy Terry. What do you think?
The sad thing is, its not even close to the same lol
Marner and Terry are only 1 year difference in age, and Marner has already scored multiple 90+ point seasons. And Terry has never had more than 67 lol

Ha, okay this should be fun.

Gudas has missed more than 10 games twice in the last six seasons and he's nearing 800 career games. That's not injury prone. Not to mention calling him "over the hill" when he's still one of the best defensive defensemen in the NHL. Since we're apparently using plus/minus to evaluate players (LOL), Gudas was a +14 for the third worst team in the league. Only three other semi-regular Ducks were even a plus. Gudas would instantly be the second best defenseman on the Leafs. Edmundson isn't anywhere close to the same caliber of player.

Mintyukov is one of the best defensive prospects in the NHL, so no he is not equivalent to a late first round pick. He goes in the top five of a 2022 redraft. But again, using plus/minus as your primary tool (and CHL plus/minus at that) is nonsense. He would instantly become the Leafs best under-25 player.

As for Marner/Terry, if only there was some complicating factor affecting Marner's trade value... Oh wait he's a free agent in a year and going to walk. Other than that, nailed it!!

Ok. So you want to overvalue everyone and undervalue Marner.
And I an properly evaluating all the players as they.
Fair enough.
Gudas GP 73, 31, 76, 67, 70, 77, 63, 54, 77, 72, 66. Career, possible 984 games. Played 748. Averaging just under 20 missed games per season. Or 25% Horrible.
Was a UFA last year and tried to wait for a contract and not a single team in the league wanted him. All competitive teams passed. Signed a pity deal in no mans land Anaheim. SOG 88 last season. Down from 110 and 100 the 2 seasons before. Even though ice time increased. Horrible

You said it. The kid is a prospect. Nothing more. Why do the Leafs want to trade superstars for prospects during a win now window again? How does that get them to a cup? As I said. He is a first round pick equivalent. Less than a season of NHL experience total. That is simply factually accurate.

Anyone who knew enough about hockey to suggest a Marner trade would know enough to understand it would come with an assumed extension. Or he would never agree to the trade in the first place (which we know he wouldn't because why would he go to ANA? They are terrible)
So that is a non issue.
Sufficient to say Marner has about twice the value Terry has just on talent alone.
So even if you wanted to make such a misguided claim, it would be evened out by the fact Marner is worth double what Terry is.
Good day.

Haha, okay...

Gudas signed with Anaheim the day free agency opened, so that throws out your silly "no one wanted him" and "waited for a contract" claim. In fact, TORONTO offered him a contract, but he didn't want to play there. By acting like Gudas is not clearly a quality player, you're either being intentionally dense or just don't know what you're talking about. Also, "no man's land" has been significantly more successful than Toronto since entering the league, but that's beside the point.

We're really clutching to the word prospect with Mintyukov I guess. The guy is one of the best U-23 defensemen in the league. Acting like his value is equal to a late first round pick is nonsense. Bedard has "less than a season of NHL experience total". So do Fantilli and Leo Carlsson. Are they getting traded for late firsts? Obviously not.

Not sure what any of this has to do with Terry, but if you think Marner at 12M commands "double" the value of Terry at 7M, then I have a bridge to sell you.
