Quote of the article : Matheson could be involved in a Necas trade! (paraphrasing).

What it means : he could or could not be involved, i have no clue!

Canes dont want Matheson, nor does Montreal have what they are looking for. That’s been confirmed weeks ago. I wouldn’t put much trust into an outdated rumor on a habs fanpage

Habs media is as bad as Toronto media

>Player becomes available for the right price
>Habs/Toronto media: "we'll shoehorn in this player the team doesn't need and pretend like it's what they want"

Seriously. At least take a look at the other teams roster and see if it makes sense before throwing your players you don’t want on them. Another expensive LHD is the last thing the canes need.

Even looking at Carolinas roster, you could use an offense only LHD. Orlov has been a disappointment and can't transition the puck effectively like Matheson can. Matheson is also a lot cheaper then other options with a low cap hit. Really just depends on what the next GM thinks of Orlov and what he thinks of Matheson.

Who gets hired will make that decision though and until that hire gets announced nothing will happen

Orlov’s been fine in my eyes. Had a slow start but he found his groove and he’s been solid, especially down the stretch and into the playoffs. I’m sure they’ll just see what he can do here when he’s not behind Skjei. We just have bigger fish to fry and trading one of our better forwards for a defenseman who would never make it past the 2nd or 3rd pair doesn’t seem like a good idea at all.

You're not getting a top pairing player for Necas though. My estimation is to aim for the same tier forward who is in the same age group but has term. Just depends on how other GMs view Necas and what holes Carolina want to fill by moving on from him. It will be interesting to see

Yea I’m not saying I expect a superstar back for Necas, it’s more of a positional need. I’d be happy if we can get another forward on a similar level as Necas or someone with that kind of top 6 upside.

That completely defeats the purpose of trading him though. Honestly I never understood why CAR wanted to trade Necas

I mean I saw why when they were trying to get a deal done with Guentzel. There way no way they would be able to keep him, Necas and Jarvis. But now that a Guentzel extension is pretty much off the table, it does make less sense to move on from him unless there’s other factors involved. Freidman did mention that it may be Necas wanting to move on now more than the Canes.

Kinda weird he would want to leave. I know he said he wanted to play center, but there isn’t a team in the league that will want to do that, so if that’s a reason it definitely makes a weird scenario

"Canes are looking for a star player in a trade for Necas"
"Montreal thinks Matheson is a star player"
"No idea if Carolina thinks that about Matheson though"
Not exact quotes just summarized. That's basically what they are saying though and then the random fan author takes the words as Matheson for Necas. Even the person they are quoting is a Montreal author, then basically suck his dick in this article.
