What do you see/like in Jokiharju that you’d want and play him instead of Solovyov or Poirier?
I don’t particularly care for Joker at all and I’m banking on Mangiapane having a bounce back season offensively, which should significantly improve his trade value by the deadline, so you’re selling him low here imo
You already covered the low return on Sharangovich and your more realistic Markström Trade (at least there’s no retention), but do we really want/need Holtz? If so, why? I’d have included Bahl to add more size to our back end too btw
Finally, I’m hoping Kylington gets a 1.25mil/1yr prove it contract instead. Wolf & Pelletier signing are close to what I expect though
I think Jokihaju is similar to Kylington when he broke out, similar age, similar playstyle, similar flaws. I think that he is a good stop gap for a year or two until Poirier steals a job especially with how much time Poirier missed last season, I see it as a low risk high reward similar to Sharangovich last season, if he pops then great, you have a piece to sell off next offseason or the following deadline while Poirier, Brzustewicz and possibly a pick from this draft have played together, seasoned and developed. If he doesn't then you have a slightly overpaid bottom pair guy that can eat minutes if the younger guys aren't ready.
Mangiapane played pretty well at his career average last year, my biggest problem with him is that he's so ineffective away from the Backlund-Coleman combo that when he's in the lineup he's preventing a guy like Pelletier, Coronato, Pospisil from developing with Backlund, I think Pelletier would benefit greatly from being put on that wing. If the Flames were in win now mode, Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman should be together every night, as it stands, they should be strapping Coronato or Pelletier to Backlund for the next while.
I think a lot of teams would want Holtz, he's 22, his floor is probably a middle 6 winger and his ceiling is insanely high. If the Flames are strapped with Huberdeau for 7 more seasons they may as well try get a young pure goal scorer who hasn't broken out yet, New Jersey is deep, he was averaging 11:30 a night last season and had close to two points per 60, he'd definitely get time on the PP in Calgary and ample opportunities to get to his potential.
