Detroit trade is too complicated.

Red Wings need Compher.

Otherwise there would be a big gaping hole at 2C.

Just make it Trouba 2 mil retained for Maatta and a 3rd.

Rangers can flip Maatta and bam...

There's your 6 mil in cap savings.

I don't hate the Blues trade, May not really need Brodzinski though

Others may disagree but I'd probably accept it even as is. Or replace Brodzinski with another later pick or something

I think the extra year and the larger financial obligation to Goodrow would kill this deal. We're essentially paying Hayes 5.25m for the next 2 years of real dollars, whereas Goodrow will be owed 8.75m over the next 2 years and then 2.5m for the final year. It may not break a deal, the Stillman group has been pretty good about having an open check for the team, but considering Goodrow isn't really an upgrade in the regular season over Hayes, and we don't really plan to be competing for the next couple of seasons I'm not sure if that 2nd is worth the money.

Don't hate it, but also don't see any need for it.

Don't hate it but don't love it. Like earlier, if it's Compher, probably not. But Copp? All ears I'd say (I'm more of a Blues fan so can't speak much on the Wings, they're just my second team)

I didn't even really bother looking at the real money, just the cap hit being about the same, but having the extra year on Goodrow. I think he would be a better fit on that third line than Hayes. He just brings energy and that's something we need more of. Agree it may take more than a second to do it, maybe adding another later pick (4th or 5th) then may be more like it. Just depends what the plan is for these next few years and if this swap still fits those plans.
Army and Stillman are quite cryptic on the plan. Is it a rebuild? No. Retool? Not really. Competitive? Meh, not really. I still think two more years of misery, then in year 3 is where we start making strides forward. Maybe even in year two if next offseason we can have a ton of turnover. I still believe in building chemistry though so I'm still thinking year 3 (2027-28) is the real year

Rangers decline any trade with Copp. Too expensive for the 3rd line.

I think Goodrow would probably be a better player for how the Blues want the bottom 6 to play, or at least did under Berube. Hayes plays a pretty weird style of a game. I've never seen a slow player like him, who is also a center get a breakaway once every 5 games. It's almost like he cheats too much to be a center, but also is long enough to get by with it most of the time. It's probably just high end anticipation.

I feel like Hayes is a smart player and can do well in the right system. Just isn't a fit with our system unfortunately

You have to wonder where he is a fit though. He wasn't a fit in Philadelphia. Regardless he does a lot of things very well. He just plays the game a bit differently. Almost plays like a winger through the middle of the ice.

Maybe we try him out at wing next year? Third line of Hayes, Dean and Sylvegard?

I also don't think Copp would be an option either. We still need him. Moving him would actually make the team worse. Love him or hate him we still need him until Kasper and/or Danielson are proven.

It's hard to imagine Dean can be counted on to be a top 9 player yet. He could pleasantly surprise out of camp though.

I also think we'd prefer Schenn on the Wing, I know we'd prefer Buch on the wing, we have a bit of that problem throughout outside of Thomas.

I have a feeling our centers next year will be Thomas / Schenn or Buch / Dean or Hayes / Alexandrov until Sunny is back. I think giving Dean a shot at 3C would be huge, or just send him back to Springfield to get top 6 minutes or development

Edit: If we truly aim to just develop next year, a lineup of Thomas / Dvorsky / Dean / Alexandrov/Sunny would be ideal too

The issue is if you're developing those younger guys you usually want them to see success in doing so. Look at Robert Thomas' development path for example, granted his is swayed very heavily to one extreme due to the amount of success he was brought in to. He was a 20th OA pick, he was known as an extremely solid defensive player for London/Hamilton, he even played defense on their PK. But he was brought into the Blues as a RW for a season to get his feet wet at the NHL level. Why? Well for one we had a pretty strong center ice depth at that point in time, but 2 because tasking him with handling heavy roles would've set him up for failure.

There's no definite success route for a prospect, everyone is different, and every situation is different. But what almost universally holds true (Outside of true extreme generational talents because they can usually create a productive environment) is that guys develop much better in places where they can succeed. Yes sustained ice-time helps, and not having the pressure of if i mess up i may not get to play or i may get bumped down helps. But what happens in situations when you aren't suited for a job to be done is you learn bad habits that help you get by. I personally don't want Dvorsky to make the NHL team next season, it sure would be exciting, but I what role is he going to be thrust into? Being a Winger for Hayes? Being a 2C who plays with better players so by default will have more a more difficult matchup?

I think this is alot of why the Blues are reluctant to bottom out. It's a failure path for a lot more guys than it is a success path.

I don't think Copp could be traded even if Yzerman wanted to move him.

I'd be curious to see how Dvorsky transfers to the NHL. I can see him getting his 9 games in at least and getting sent to Springfield for top line minutes. Definitely don't see him returning to Sudbury as he really excelled there. I think he could play 2C, but I agree it may not be beneficial, depending on who he plays with. I really really don't want to see him playing on the third line with Hayes... that may stunt his growth. Maybe with Schenn and Kyrou? Let Dvorsky be a playmaker for Kyrou while Schenn is the protector. OHL is too easy for him after about 75% of a season. It's either NHL or AHL time. All depends on the team mindset next year, competing more of developmental focus... part of me hopes for the latter just to have a pick in the top 10 and replenish the pool even more and speed up the retool. Another pick around 14-18 would feel like a waste IMO
