Best Tavares Destinations -- #1

Created by: krakowitz
Team: 2018-19 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 8, 2017
Published: Aug. 11, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The reason that Carolina is the perfect destination for Tavares is because they have all the pieces high-end free agents are attracted to: lots of cap space, being guaranteed a huge role, and a team that has all the makings of one that can compete for championships for a long while. The Hurricanes have a need for a #1 center, and there aren't a lot of them better than Tavares, especially if they can sign him for free rather than giving up a bunch of assets for him in a trade. JT would be the final piece in the Hurricanes' championship puzzle.

However, it would be quite beneficial to the Hurricanes if they were to trade the contract of Jordan Staal. While I personally am not sold on Hadyn Fleury, it seems others are and he may have significant interest from Colorado. Giving the Avs both Fleury and Staal should be able to bring back Andrighetto and a couple picks. That way the Hurricanes have plenty of money to bring in Tavares, as well as locking up Aho, Bean, Skinner, and Teravainen next season (even though Kruger and Williams come off then, it's much easier to do it with Staal gone).

I had the same exact thought yesterday. This team would be incredible and it makes SO much sense for Tavares. The canes getting two top pair 22 yo D at a combined 9M instantly makes them a contender for future super power house. As a sabres fan I am terrified of this team

I'll agree Carolina is a good spot for Tavares, trading NMC Jordan Staal isn't as easy as finding a team with cap. He'll never agree to Colorado or many other teams.

The Canes have soooo much talent 25 and under. It is crazy. For sure a power house to be similar to Toronto. The difference? The Canes have yet to make a dumb signing that could really hurt them.
While I think Tavares would be a great fit it would be interesting to see how they fit all of Skinner, Teravainen, Andrighetto, Aho, and then Faulk the following year under the cap. You're looking at well over 20M for those first 4 players and then probably another 6-8 for Faulk. This is obviously way out but still interesting to see.
