3C - TDL

Created by: nuxfan
Team: 2017-18 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 13, 2017
Published: Aug. 13, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Crosby and Co. go for a three-peat and at the TDL decide to acquire the twins at a reduced combined cap hit of ~$3,000,000 (Penguins have ~$15,000,000 TDL cap space)... They give up Sprong and two late first rounders which will be equal to two early second rounders... The twins are reunited with ex-Canuck assistant coach (coach for a few games while Torts was suspended) Mike Sullivan... IMO this trade will give the Penguins three first lines and extraordinary depth and more than likely another Stanley Cup

Based on the current real life roster the Penguins will have two send two guys to minors... I don't watch many Penguins games so the lineup may seem off... I sent Archibald and Ruhwedel to the minors they will probably have to clear waivers or Pittsburgh could two guys from their NHL roster to the trade and change the picks... If Pittsburgh decides to go that route then contingent upon how the players they acquire fit into the Canuck rebuild I could see the Canucks flipping those players for prospects and picks

Another option for the roster size would be call up two guys right now that are waiver exempt and send down two guys or trade them then when Pittsburgh acquires the twins the two guys that they want to send to the minors won't have to go through waivers

Thanks, don't need them to run the playoffs. I don't think they at the age they are are a fit to the style Pitt plays. That's also why Jagr won't be in the team as well.

So you want Sprong, two high picks... I know that is a rebuilding but after all it all's about giving Sedins a privilege to win a Cup rather than a GM's necessity to bring them to have a chance of winning. I'd better stick to GMJR TDL strategy and spend a high pick on a quality rental vet def. Looks like there could be some available btw.

The goal is to win more than 1 cup. These Sedin trades help the Sedins this year and screws the team they get sent to for the future. The PENS can give up picks, but why rent players that they don't need, rather than continue to build a team that is going to compete for years to come? I'd rather have Sprong and the pics and the cap space for depth rather than EXCEEDING THE SALARY CAP to get aging stars their best chance at a cup, before they never contribute again to the Pens.

We can trade can retain Sprong and these picks and send less valuable parts to have a better future, at a better cap hit, etc, etc, etc.

I wouldn't send 2nd for the sedins, let alone a prospect that's projected to be able to replace a top six winger. You win championships by doing what the Pens did the past 2 years (bring youth along) rather than what they did the previous 7 years (chase old players to fall short). They same is true of 2009. It's how teams succeed in the Cap Era.
