Can anyone explain me why you guys are thinking about trade for Mackinnon? He's too expensive to be a 3rd line center and he's defnitely not the type of player we need. It makes no sense even think about this idea. At least if you're trying to be realistic.

We need a player like Adam Henrique, Tyler Bozak, Radek Faksa, Derrick Brassard, etc. Two-way centers, like Bonino's.
PS: Of couse he's a very talented kid, but the idea of trade for him is nonsense at all.

MacKinnon is 21, Crosby is 30 and Malkin is 31. The Penguin model is to be strong at center and if we were to get MacKinnon we would, barring major injury, probably have the best top three centers in the league for the next five to eight years. Losing Jake and Dumo would hurt but I think it would be well worth it.

Which is why the Avs would be crazy to trade him. His potential is still extremely valuable and worth much more than what is offered here. Guentzel is a passenger, Dumoulin is a solid top-4 D, and the pick is basically a 2nd. Not even close. It's like offering Landeskog, Barrie, and a 2nd for Crosby.

That would get you Duchene with 3M retained and a conditional 2nd if he leaves for FA.
