Cap crunch coming, but Ehlers and Morrissey are key to making it work long term

Description
Long term is a relative word. Cause 3 years in the NHL is a long time. That said, I really believe if the jets have any chance of competing in the central and the west for a cup, they need to get morrissey and ehlers on bridge deals. Ehlers i used the kucherov comparable rounded up to $4.8million. Morrissey is not really a comparible that I used, but it's a number I feel is a good bridge price for an up and coming D who's gonna be playing with Trouba.

Trouba, you're gonna have to pay for if you wanna keep him. Byfuglien money and 7 years is what it'll take I think.

Roslovic is not ready to take on his future 2nd line centre role. Re sign little at 2 years and $5.5 I think is a good deal and if roslovic comes sooner than later you can inter change the 2 between 2nd and 3rd line and Bjugstad can go to the wing.

Lowry should be 3rd line but with the talent in front of him, 4th line isn't a bad place when you can roll 4 lines consistently. Without hesitation. He'll get his minutes either way and be that tough physical defensive 2 way player that he is.

Finally a byfuglien trade to Florida, for Bjugstad. Florida doesn't seem to have a lot of good D prospects and for 3 more years the same as Bjugstad it might be better suited to have stability in the back end in the short term.

Lastly, with Laine expected to get $10Million+ after this current contract, I really think these moves allow the jets with a good amount of flexibility going forward especially with wheeler, and Connor needing new contracts coming at the same time. Even resigning Myers would not be out of the question for the right price.

These are my thoughts anyone else care to chime in?

I like the idea of getting Ehlers and Morrissey on bridge deals. That'd be nice for them.

Why do you think Laine is going to to get 10m? If he's a RFA and receives offer sheets maybe, but the Jets aren't committed to signing him to anything close to that amount.
Just because some teams relented and signed some what might be silly long term contracts, doesn't mean all team will or even have to. Look at the Trouba deal last summer.

I say that cause there's 1 of 2 ways that it goes much like the situation with any superstar with upcoming contracts (Laine, Matthews, Nylander, Eichel) Either you sign them now for long term money that while is hefty in the end it might balance itself out relative to the cap long term, or you sign them to bridge and run risk of getting bent over for even more money. Bridge deal for mcdavid and his max contract goes from 12.5 to 16$++. Jets are buying security much like Toronto will do with Matthews and buffalo with Eichel.

Lowry is a 4th line center you do not play 4th line center 3+mil. You don't play Little anything over what he is making he is in decline already and you don't not bridge Ehlers that will cost you big big money later. Also Bjustand is over paid why bring that on board. Th e fact you think Lowry is a 3rd line talent is an issue he isn`t at all he doesn`t drives no offense. Also Stanley is like the jets 6-7 best dmen prospect. He is big thats pretty much it.

KPasty. Well there other options. After the ELCs are up a team has control of a player for 4 years. By extending the contract...a maximum of 8 years....well that's another 4 years of control....not eight.
Remember last summer when folks thought Trouba would get 6m...well he signed for 2.8m. And the Jets still have for two years contract after his contract. If teams start going crazy and think all their RFA HAVE to be signed for long term deals. Well you might have 8 guys making an average of 7m and the other 15 guys making 20m.

First it was Trouba that didn't want the long term deal jets were willing to go up to 5.75mil a season on a long term deal. 2nd Trouba, Ehlers and morrissey are all creaper this summer then they will be next summer. Jets are a small market team and should risk signing them now. Likely could get Trouba for just over 6mil, Ehlers for over 6mil and morrissey around 4mil all on long term deals. If they keep they same career arc that will be great value in 1-2 yrs.

Which is exactly why I have Ehlers and Morrissey on bridge deals. Realistically, the jets would love to lock up ehlers and Morrissey long term as much as I'm sure they would have loved to lock Trouba up last season long term. That said exceptions are made and It really is in the best interest of the Jets to get max value out of Laine now, much the same way Toronto will lock up Matthews for 8x$10+
