Teams will be lining up to offer him max length and $10+ million a year. Why would he take a one year deal for an extra couple million?

With all the teams that will be lining up too sign John Tavares, Fat chance that he would sign a one year deal.

With a couple of their young guys having big seasons this year, this team could look like a cup contender if tavares signs. And then after this season he can go sign an 8 year deal somewhere else

And he signs a 1 year deal, blows his knee out and just lost millions? He's going to take the 8Y deal ASAP. Stuff like this is what you do in NHL 17.
