CAR / VGK deal

Created by: Tkachinla
Team: 2017-18 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 20, 2017
Published: Aug. 21, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A serviceable bottom 6 NHL forward plus two decent prospects and 2 picks for a couple guys with 1 year left on their deals and not needed in VGK or likely to stay long-term.
----------
CAR will be an interesting team to follow this season, and they could make a lot more noise by adding to the lineup further. Williams, Kruger, and Darling were good starts. With this move, CAR would have excellent depth shooting/scoring with a whack of potential 30-goal players (Skinner, Neal, Aho, Marchessault), plus a number of possible 20-goal candidates (Staal, Lindholm, Rask, Williams).
----------
If Neal, Williams, and Marchessault can put up 70 goals (they had 77 last year), and CAR can get 80 goals from outside the Top 8 (they had about 90 last year), then they are knocking on the door, or above, the average GF of the Top 10 teams (252 goals).
----------
I don't see CAR getting that aggressive just yet, but they are a team to keep an eye on. Especially with a young and improving D core and better goaltending from Darling.

Like the idea of getting Neal, but think thats a pretty huge overpayment for him and March.

March is pretty dang good, and if both stayed longer than a year, I think the price would make sense.

That said, I structured it to try to approach the "VGK would be foolish not to accept the deal as is" level.

Neal's deal expires in a year, March scored 30 goals once and who knows whether he will do it again. Huge overpayment, not coughing up the pipeline for these two players.
