Description

Trade would be made after the season starts. Myers would have to show he's 100% healthy and playing at top 4 caliber. EDM needs a top 4 RHD on a cost effective contract that doesn't have too long a term. Myers could be that if he's back to full form. RNH is a luxury as a 3rd line C and having him making 6M is too much for the oilers to handle for another 4 years. It's hockey trade for both teams. WPG gets a solid C who still has potential to return to that #1OA form. WPG also gets a replacement for Little should they not be able to re-sign him to a reasonable contract while also giving them C depth to compete in the playoffs now.

Nogier or Melchiori likely take that 3rd pairing role to start but Poolman likely fits that bill if he's fully healthy and recovered from his double shoulder surgery which is why they're able to trade Myers for RNH. Also they'll need to have a good idea that Trouba will sign long term otherwise Myers isn't really expendable.

With Trouba and Byfuglien both wanting 25+ minutes a night, Myers is a luxury at $5.5M for sheltered minutes. Even if healthy, Myers won't be able to prove himself until either Trouba or Buff get injured or traded. As grateful as Myers it to TNSE on how they accommodated him last year, it may be best to let him have a larger role elsewhere. I am a bit worried about the Jet's cap space to resign Trouba, Ehlers, Laine, Morrissey and Connor. Myers' contract coming off the books next season might have been counted on to make the numbers work.

Makes Winnipeg worse, Myers is going to help them make the playoffs, RNH won't. If Winnipeg trades a defenseman, you can bet it will be Trouba. Since a good defender is first of all more important and secondly harder to come by than a talented forward, Myers would go for RNH straight up, no 2nd included, especially if Myers "proves himself."

teams aren't going to wait for myers to prove especially if taking on his expensive cap hit. so right now his trade value is low. would love to see myers get healthy and good as the jets sure got use him or trade him for equivalent good value.
