I really don't see how Colorado walks away from that unhappy. That's an NHL 20 year old, two first rounders and one of two prospects with clear NHL potential. Half of the rebuild they need is done within one trade.

Its a future package and a good one but there is 0 Dmen in this package. Doesnt address the whole reason of wanting to move Duchene. Getting a Dman to help solve their long term D Core issues

WAY too much for Duchene! He's an elite talent, but only a good overall player.

I wouldnt give that up honestly, Duchene's value is sky diving. As much as we need a 2C.. not for that cost

How is his value sky-diving? Teams that need a #2 center will look at Duchene and see someone that fits the NEED. Because the Avs are asking too much in return doesn't mean his value drops. Even if the Avs go into the season with Duchene, some team will lose a player and NEED a replacement, that's when the Avs get closer to their asking price. But overall, I think this is a fair trade, doesn't meet their need right away, but 1 - 2 years down the road this could prove to be great, or fair at the very least.

Worst season of his career, clear that player wants to part from team, longer this goes the longer Duchene's on the Avalanche which starts counting down his contract. And it's pretty clear Sakic still hasn't dropped his asking price so yeah I'd say his values sky diving because if nobody wanted to meet his needs with 2 1/2 years of Duchene why would they want to offer what Sakic wants with 2 years of Duchene on the table. Just my 2 cents

I see your point but thats not how things really work. Talent is talent and teams pay up for it in the end if they need the player. Look at Drouin for example. Coming off next to nothing in terms of production in the NHL, doesnt report to the AHL, sits out, is team suspended. Comes back to the Team and is ultimately traded later on for the price that Yzerman wanted.

value of players under contract just dont drop magically bc of isolated moments in a players career. This would be different if duchene was pending UFA this year, hes not. Nothing has changed being traded in May or in October, a team will stil get 2 years of Duchene and the ability to sign him to an extension next off season.

Until the season starts and he is 20 some games deep into the Avs seasons...then yeah maybe we can start to talk about the price dropping. But then again if he is back with the Avs and back to producing at his career normals (last eyar was his only abnormal season) then really is his price dropping that much bc iut takes away the "career low" arguments

The talk I've heard is that Snow offered Hamonic+ for Duchene. NYI gets a great 2nd line center, COL gets a good 2nd pairing defenseman and a few pieces to even out the difference in price. I would have thought that would work.

By the looks of it, Sakic will settle for nothing less than a top pairing defenseman (and more) for Duchene. It would explain why Hamonic didn't pique Sakic's interest. I think we can all agree that no one is giving up a top defenseman for a 2nd line Center (a very good one, but still a 2nd line center), yet Sakic insists on his asking price.

The way I see it, Sakic has three options:
1. Hold on to Duchene, hope he does well and see if someone matches his offer.
2. Trade Duchene for a 2nd pairing defenseman and several future assets.
3. Trade Duchene for far more future assets than Duchene is worth knowing full well someone will bite.

Personally, I can't see why Sakic wants a mix of current and future assets. Does he really think he has a shot at the playoffs this season? Why doesn't he just admit it's time for a small rebuild and take the wealth of future assets?

He doesnt...thats why they turned down Hamonic, and the adding to Hamonic package offers. They are not interested in an older than 25 year old Dman or player. They want a younger D prospect or Young NHL Dman that can grow with the age group of the new core of MacKinnon, Zads, Rantanen, and Jost..Makar is coming soon so its all about building something 2 to 3 years down the line. A 27 year old Hamonic now who hasn't played a full season in his career bc of Injuries wont age well with this group. By the time the Kids are ready. Hamonic will be 30 and probably a shell of himself

Guys like Hamonic aren't the solution, so it doesnt matter what Snow adds to it with other draft picks. H===
