This accomplishes nothing - Avs would rather risk a possible awkward and tumultuous locker room than making this trade. Duchene might miss training camp, but for his future, he'll show up to play just to prove his skill set. Teams will identify the need for a talent like Duchene fairly quick once the season begins and injuries, etc. occur.

I think Galchenyuk is a slight upgrade on Duchene, and at this point I just want Duchene gone. Barring a miracle the Avs are finishing bottom 5 this year regardless. This just avoids younger guys on the team having to play with YET ANOTHER veteran who doesn't want to be there.

Also, with MTLs lack of centers, they could use a good faceoff guy like Duchene in their top 6.

It's a bit of a stretch to consider Galchenyuk an upgrade on Duchene. He want's to be a Center and the Avs have plenty of those, younger and cheaper. If you throw in a top-D prospect and a 1st rounder then maybe, just maybe you have a deal. But the bottom line is, the Avs have plenty of forwards (wingers) and now need to focus on D - this isn't solving a problem but rather causing clutter up-front.

I agree 100% that it doesn't solve the Avs problem that they're terrible. There is much work to be done. I just think swapping out Duchene for an equally talented center would make things better in the locker room at this point. It's clear Sakic isn't getting what he wants for him, so just swap him out. Or, Duchene steps it up and has a great year and increases his value. <----- hopefully that's what happens
