Trying to accelerate the rebuild in 2018/19

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2018-19 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 12, 2017

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Overall the Canucks have a poor season again in 2017/18, but see good development from their younger players and prospects, and Markstrom starts to show some real promise as a starter.

In 2018/19 the Sedins hang up their skates, the Canucks have another good draft, then get aggressive in free agency to bolster the younger lineup;

Turris -- Not an elite 1st line center, but the local boy can be the 1a/1b with Horvat for the next 5 seasons, giving the team great depth down the middle and allowing Pettersson to get easier matchups playing on the third line.

Carlson -- Like Turris, not an elite #1 at his position, but an excellent offensive RHD. The Caps may have trouble affording to give him such a big raise, so a team like Van could offer a very competitive contract in free agency.

With Edler, Del Zotto, Nilsson and Dorsett as pending UFA's the following year the team still has a lot of cap flexibility moving forward even after two big signings.

Turris would be great for Vancouver, and it's conceivable that he would sign there. But you're being a bit too optimistic to think that the (arguably) best C and D in that free agency class will both sign in Vancouver. In all honesty, VAN won't be able to do a rebuild by just signing free agents.

Any roster would look pretty good if you add Turris and Carlson.

I honestly would never pay carlson that much money. Would much rather keep Guddy on the team if it comes down to it. Florida seems to want him back so this must mean something. The guy is only 25.
