CGY Duchene

Created by: TJTwolf
Team: 2017-18 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 15, 2017
Published: Sep. 15, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Looking at what Sakic is reportedly asking for and what each team MIGHT (reasonably) have to offer to meet it and why it does or doesn't work.
Trades
CGY
  1. Duchene, Matt
Additional Details:
Why it works: It's hard to see how it does for the Flames other than to pad out their forwards with another bona fide scoring threat to push them over the top. Duchene could easily move onto the top line at RW (he is on record as preferring to play RW rather than LW even though he is a left hand shot), and still gives cover at centre. Andersson is a comparatively easy piece to part with as the Flames are pretty well set on the RHD.
Why it doesn't work: It's hard to see the need for Duchene in the Flames line up other than as stated above. The Flames are very light on LHD so Kylington may be tabbed for a spot there. Any trade they make for Duchene will require something sent back of value or salary retained by the Avs to keep any kind of cap space hence the addition of Bennett.
COL
  1. Andersson, Rasmus
  2. Bennett, Sam
  3. Kylington, Oliver
Additional Details:
Why it works: Avs acquire a potential Top 4 LHD in Kylington that is reputedly a big part of the asking price. Is he ready yet? Probably not but the Avs have a few who can hold a place on the left for now until any question marks are resolved. Andersson slots in nicely on the 3rd pairing for the Avs on the right. Bennett gives the Avs a nice young roster piece.
Why it doesn't work: Sakic may want more whether you think that’s reasonable or not. I suspect he will. Kylington may still be too much of a gamble. Bennett adds yet another centre to the Colorado roster (making about ten I think if you include Toninato & Kerfoot as recent signings!)

No wonder your team can't trade Duchene... The asking price for a 41 point 6 million cap hit player - crap even if you go with his best in the last 3 years... 59 @ 6 mil ... Bennett alone projects higher... So does Anderson...

Does Duchene even play RW - listed as a LW/C???? Might be willing to give you Anderson but you would need to take back some $ so flames stay under the cap (your team above is short 2 roster players and already negative!) Take Brouwer - and maybe Calgary adds a forward prospect like Dube or a 4th round pick...

Otherwise NO DEAL... I know you guys LOVE Duchene but the NHL is about WHAT HAVE YOU DONE LATELY and in that column... 41P / 59P / 55P last 3 years at 6 million = CAP Dump! Not I want everything!!!

Does Sakic have such a big contract himself that ownership can't bear paying him to do nothing?

The whole point was that is the kind of asking price Sakic is 'reportedly' asking, and is an illustration of what Calgary would need to give up. The salary cap, and the RW part are explained in the additional details which shows you lack comprehension, reading ability or plain didn't bother to read the explanation before chirping. It even explains why it does or doesn't work. Thanks for playing!
