General Managers,
During the down time, the BOEG has taken some time to reflect on the year, analyzing the positives and the negatives. From these discussions, we have agreed that, under this current model, continuing the v2 GM Game is not sustainable for more than one year. The reason we believe this to be true is because teams will only be making trades that perpetuate lateral moves, resulting in minimal - if any - change in “win now” rankings. This will result in contenders remaining contenders, middle teams remaining middle teams (with slight movement), and bottom-feeders being bottom-feeders. If this model would be sustainable for more than one year, it would have to compromise the intrinsic value associated with simply playing the game - trade limits would be heavily reduced, for example. In simpler terms, the game is designed for only one year at a time given our current rules.
We have decided to submit this proposal to you, the General Managers, to consider:
2017-2018 Season
Draft + Superlatives
v2 ends at conclusion of Superlatives
2018-2019 Season (Full Restart)
June 1 - Pick teams (ideally GMs who have the strongest comparative advantage will take those teams, further explanation later; pick order TBD)
June 4-20* - 2018 NHL Draft
June 20-XX* - Free Agency
September 15 - Official Start of 2018-2019 Season
March/April, 2019 - EXPANSION DRAFT (GM - phillyjabroni)
Due to the Expansion Draft, the rosters from the 2018-2019 season will carry over into the 2019-2020 season. We will be able to assess the state of the GM Game as we get closer to that date. The reason for the Expansion Draft is to a.) provide more strategic fun and b.) have model that is sustainable for more than one year.
Currently, our model will have (4) BOG members and zero BOE members. No trade ratings. Yes to waiver order (win now?).
