GM Game 2017-2018: Montreal Canadiens

Created by: ricochetii
Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 15, 2017
Published: Sep. 15, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Win now mode.

Status: Looking for depth improvements and futures.
I'm listening to anything, but main roster is pretty much set, so offer accordingly.

---------- Available -----------
Schlemko - 3rd/4th or equivalent prospect
Morrow - 6th/7th round prospect, prefer RW/RHD

Offers should include futures without having a negative impact on my roster. (ie: if you want Benn I'd expect a RHD that helps me now as well as a pick or a prospect).
If prices are high it is because I have no NEED to move anyone.

Players currently in the minors are negotiable (view Capfriendly team list: https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/canadiens)

------------ Wants -------------
- Missing picks
- The last 5 years back

----------- Directives ------------
- Build a contender
- Manage cap
- Restock picks

** Ignore lines and roster set up. I'll be playing with it a lot. **

----- Player Rights -------
F: Naatinen Pezzetta Cates Vejdemo Ikonen Trunev Friberg
D: Koberstein Staum Henrikson Tyszka Walford Fleury Brook
G: Hawkey

----- Notes -----
I own the 2nd (WSH - 2018) from the conditional picks in the Drouin/Sergachev trade.

With how things are right now, it doesn't look like I can move Weber without also picking up another RHD. I've been trying to come up with something, but it would probably involve a 3rd team or separate trade. No rush since you're done for November anyway.

Just dropping by - if you guys want to enter 3-way talks I could toss Mike Green into the mix. You guys can decide what a Leddy-Weber swap would look like (if it even works at all), and I can deal Mike Green with some money retained to MTL.

I'll keep it in mind but Green isn't the right fit unless I move Petry, which I can't do until after this season. If i picked up Green i wouldn't be interested in Leddy as well. One or the other.

Id consider Green at 50% as a rental. Depends on the ask?

Not in a rush to move him but at 50% I'd be looking at Poehling or Ikonen or a nice package of picks.

I may have some interest in Lehkonen, depending on what you want.

Top 6 offensive winger. Looking for goals. Similar salary or Shaw included.

Not particularly. I like him a little, but not enough to bring him back to Montreal.

I don't really see a fit, but I'll listen. I'm looking for goals now and a more offensive oriented player, where Lehkonen will be a solid 2-way goal scorer within a couple of years, I don't want to wait, and I don't particularly need him for his 2-way or forechecking abilities.

That's why I said I don't see a fit. Would probably have to be a 3rd party involved. Closest thing you have is Marleau but he's a little too old and expensive for me.

I'll take a look later. I'd prefer to retain for a better return but i know you don't need that, so it might not work out. I don't need the cap space right now, so less incentive to move him for a mediocre prospect.

Would you be in favor of us being allowed to sign players who are currently free agents or under contract with our AHL affiliates to NHL contracts?

Not at all. There's a reason Lehkonen was drafted ahead of Buchnevich. He's the more complete player, and it shows on the ice.
I'm only considering moving him because most of my players are well rounded, so I want access to someone who is offense-first.

Not really. Grabner and Yakupov are the only possibilities, but I'm better off keeping Lehkonen in either of those cases.

Looks like you've already moved the prospects I might have considered. I'll say a 3rd and waiver exempt AHL'er, but I know you don't want to spend a pick here, so I don't see it happening. Unless you want to retain and flip him to someone else for another Plekanec. That'll give you 9M in cap for this season, but you'd need to get more than a 3rd in the flip for it to be worthwhile. That's up to you if you want to try.

Open to offers on Shaw. Not really looking to move Byron. Interested in Schenn, Duclair or Cogliano off the top of my head but throw out anything you have in mind and maybe we can go from there.

Interested in Byron, Lehkonen, Mete, Danault, and Benn. Have any interest in someone from Florida?

Ekblad and Baertschi if they are available.
Leddy you already knew but I can't fit him in my lineup.
Maybe we can work something out if you're interested in Weber as well?

What would you do as a base for Baerschi?

I'll have to check some numbers and get back to you if we're just talking Baertschi.
Have to price him for next year and see if it fits into my cap. Most of the guys you named aren't due for a raise next season.
Danault would be the best option, but I value him way more than Baertschi and have no need to move a C for another W, so not sure if that works.
Is Shaw an option if salary has to be involved?
