I think that a bad defenseman can cause more harm to their own team than a bad forward, simply because they are on the ice longer. However, looking at your teams, there are more high-talent forwards than high-talent defensemen on either team, and I think they can outclass the defensive team, which leads me to choose the offensive team.

Engelland is a defenseman.
And i'll take the forwards because at least it has a few guys that are pretty good even at NHL level on D.

Can you rephrase that please? Who or what is "it" and you take forwards why?

He said that he'll take the forward option that Mr Cap put together "it" because he likes the D

But a great D (including goaltender) can defend the best players. I think everyone just gets horny over goals and "fantasy" points. I like it when my team shuts out another.

And that’s why Boston isn’t anywhere close to a Stanley cup....

The best defence is a good offence. If the puck is always in the offensive end, how can your opponents score? The Pittsburgh Nashville series is a great example of this. A mediocre offence with the best defence in the leauge, lost to the best offence in the leauge with a mediocre defensive core. The NHL is changing. Elite offensive players win championships.

Minnesota is another great example. Mediocre offence followed by a great defence doesn't get them far in the playoffs

Fantasy points? You mean goals and assists? Which are what teams need to accumulate to win games?

Between the two teams the OP has, you can't honestly tell me that the team with the "elite defense" wins. Now historically you are correct and defense tends to win championships.. Here are the last 8 Champions and where they ranked in GA/GP

2017 - PIT (15th)
2016 - PIT (6th)
2015 - CHI (2nd)
2014 - LAK (1st)
2013 - CHI (1st)
2012 - LAK (2nd)
2011 - BOS (2nd)
2010 - CHI (5th)

In the case of the two teams in the OP, I'd take the offensive team as I don't think the defense is is that much better that it would be able to keep the elite offense at bay.

So you can get away with an average offense if you have a great defense. That 2013 CHI team was just dominate it both areas lol

Would have been a better poll if you actually listed a good defensive lineup!!
